Categories: Historic Sites, Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Travel back to a bygone era by visiting Old Square (Plaza Vieja), designed and laid out in the 1550s. A living piece of Cuba's colonial past, this picturesque square boasts eclectic architecture and once provided enough space for military exercises, bullfights, public executions, religious processions, local festivals, and market stalls. Today, restaurants, cafes, and bars cluster in the area, serving mainly as a popular tourist hub and favorite hangout for locals living nearby. Bring your camera and snap a few memorable shots of Baroque buildings sitting alongside Gaudi-inspired structures erected at the height of the Art Nouveau movement. Using our custom trip planner, Havana attractions like Old Square (Plaza Vieja) can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

We traveled with Global Relations Travel Club from the USA and they know how to do it in Cuba. They were able to get us a great, small, hotel near this vibrant plaza.
I went to Plaza Vieja every night during my stay in Havana. There are a few restaurants and most of them have live music at night. And if you want to relax a bit more, there is a great spa salon inbet... read more »
I wasn't so pleased with the rwo times we tried this place. It's a fun thing that they brew their own beer. But the food was overpriced and not very good. And the place was full of people taking advantage of the tourists dining there. Not something I wouöd recomend aside from the beer.
Very cool brewery to hang out for a day or in the afternoons. Food is not that good but beer is good. 500ml for around 4us. Beware it is typically over run with tourist.
Great view on the small square of Havana, the beer is brewed by the cafe itself and that makes it special, I didn't like the taste much myself but I'm more a fan of Dutch beers ;). The towers of beer that you can order is nice for the eye and many of the local teenagers come here to enjoy the yellow water! The personnel is friendly and helpful and although there are some artists that are drawing your face when you're eating they are quickly dismissed if you're not interested. Tip: on the opposite side of the square there is a great coffee house because the coffee is not that good at plaza vieja.
This place is awful in many ways. I was skeptical due to the proximity to the cruise ship, but my interest was peeked by the brewery. The beer is not good. The food is absolutely terrible (or perhaps slightly worse than ordinary Cuban standards). And worst of all, the restaurant operates typical tourist scams. The first red flag was that my girlfriend and I were given menus with different prices. Hers being about double mine. I may have got the local menu for speaking Spanish. We brought this up with the embarrassed staffer, but decided to eat something anyway due to being hungry. At the end of the terrible meal, they attempted a price bait and switch, claiming that a dish we ordered came with a salad. The salad being a piece of lettuce. This resulted in an unnecessary conflict. Do not go to this awful restaurant. The food is awful, and they will try to rip you off. In fact, just avoid old Havana altogether.
Great location and one of the few places in Cuba you can get a flavorful pint of beer from a keg. Fun people watching at Plaza Vieja from the outdoor seating.
