Museo del Chocolate, Havana

#4 of 61 in Museums in Havana
Head to the sweet heart of town at Museo del Chocolate, a cultural attraction and cafe dedicated to all things cocoa. Though billing itself as a museum, the facility doesn't actually feature a huge range of artifacts or historical write-ups. Aside from a few interesting old wrappers, machines, and ads, the significance of the place comes from what it makes on the premises. Watch as artisans produce chocolatey treats before your eyes, and sniff the intoxicating aroma. Take a seat at the onsite cafe to try a treat from the menu of hot, cold, big, and small chocolatey products. • We were taken here on a walking tour of Old Havana. Our tour guide used the impeccably clean bathroom. It really isn't much of a museum, but it was a great air conditioned, clean, and inviting spot to...  more »
  • A shop with apparently no supplies (anything we asked for we were told no), rude staff, and after 3 attempts to buy something we left without anything except frustration at how awful the staff were.  more »
  • It's more like a shop with a few signs around. We got a table and ordered 2 ice cold milky chocolatey drinks which were so delicious! We also got a little box of chocolates and the total of the 2 drin...  more »

  • Got to buy some chocolate on the second day, after queuing for several hours on the first, only to find out that everything was sold out already. The taste of the chocolate is rather average, I would say. But given the fact that this is in Cuba, it is an achievement.
  • Not a museum, not bad chocolate for the very good prices.
  • Every day they sell out quickly
  • The name is misleading - its not a museum pre se, just a cafe with some info about history of chocolate, about ingredients used in productin, old tool used in production, etc. Generally interesting and worth visiting. Moreover their choco is home made / hand made.
  • This sounds like a tourist trap but it's not. Go here even if you don't love chocolate. There's a churros guy who works like an animal right outside that sells a batch of churros for .50 CUC, a must. Also, you can visit this place when you need to take a break from the heat. AC seems hard to come by in Havana and this place has it. Super clean and a cold chocolate drink was 1 CUC. It also came with 2 little pieces of chocolate as an appetizer so what's not to like? You can also buy tons of other chocolate here in all shapes and sizes at very reasonable prices.
