Monument of the Street Person, Havana

(3.7/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Pay tribute to one of Havana's most prominent characters at Monument of the Street Person. The statue commemorates José María López Lledín, one of the city's most well-known street people, famed for wandering around Havana and earning the nickname "El Caballero de Paris"--a reference to his affinity for all things French. Lledín was born in Spain in the early 20th century before being sent to Cuba to work with his uncle at the age of twelve. Following incarceration in 1920, his offbeat life in Havana began. Local custom holds that you should rub his beard for good luck. Put Monument of the Street Person on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Havana trip itinerary planner.

  • This crazy old man in Havana. It is a monument to an actual person, who died recently. They say he was a clandestine millionaire. but it was crazy and didn't have time to take advantage of its wealth. Passing by the monument, you rubbed his beard and may he share their wealth with you.
