El Templete, Havana
(3.5/5 based on 85+ reviews on the web)
Witness 19th-century Neoclassical architecture at El Templete. The temple, which is deeply immersed in stories of the local culture and history, was built in 1828 on the site of the city's first mass and the first council. It sits behind a column that replaces a silk cotton tree where the first mass took place. Inside the structure you'll find three large paintings that depict the first mass, the first town council, and the blessing of the site. • Museum El Templete is a neoclassical Chapel, located in the Plaza de Armas, one of the four main squares of old Havana. Built at the beginning of the 19th century, in the place where was celebrated the first mass in Havana, under a Ceiba tree. In its interior there are three paintings on the mass and an urn of marble where the rest of the architect of the Chapel and his wife. The Chapel is surrounded by a small garden, where there is also a monument of Cristóbal Colón. Each November 16 is celebrated in this place the founding of Havana by the habaneros, honoring the ceiba and giving 12 turns around it thus complying with tradition.

  • Good food and views.
  • The paella for 2 or more is a must. Pricy for Cuba but worth it
  • Live Cuban traditional music. Excellent cocktails and cuisine that can always be improved. If you are not a connoisseur is perfect for tourists. Fun
