Castillo de San Carlos de la Cabana, Havana
Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Explore the historic Castillo de San Carlos de la Cabana, built in the 18th century to defend Havana from British colonial conquests. Now a public park, this fortress complex contains several museums, though most visitors come to climb the ramparts and take in the views of old Havana. Try not to miss the nightly cannon firing ceremony, which signals the closing of the city gates, a tradition cherished since colonial times. It is very old, but in virtue of the restoration is in excellent condition. Is a place that should be visited by those who are in Havana. There are several restaurants that don't comment because I didn't. Should make the visit around 9:00 pm to watch the Cañonaço which is a cannon shot fired at this time and closed the sea port.show original
A great and magnificent place to visit. From here you can get the best pictures over Havana when you take a walk up on the wall. We didn't find any place where you could actually go inside the buildings aside from the small Chapel and some stores. The best thing is to come here in the evening to watch the Canon salute they have every evening at 09:00 Pm. Be there a good time before if you want good seats.
It is a little bit forgotten place unfortunatelly...
