Bacardi Building, Havana

4.1
#40 of 200 in Things to do in Havana
Built in 1930, Bacardi Building is popular for its size and elegant Art Deco architecture. Once the largest building in the city, a group of architects originally designed this attraction for the Bacardi company. However, the popular rum manufacturer departed Cuba after the Cuban revolution, and the massive building has since been used for offices. Tourists are encouraged to stroll around the buidling, and Art Deco lovers should explore the interior as well. Ask about taking the elevator to the roof for sweeping views of the city. • You certainly can walk up and get some amazing views from the top. Just take the elevator up as far as you can, then the stairs the rest of the way. There's a security guard who's pretty great at finding you on asking for money or not letting you up. Make sure you bring some small denomination bills so you can say that's all you've got. Otherwise he keeps asking for more..
  • Beautiful and decadent, and sadly not open for visits at time of writing
  • Art Deco building showing the magnificence of the old Cuba. Get in take a minute to see around and then climb to the topfloor with the elevator. few stairs up and you will have one of the best views in La Havana!
  • If you are really lucky you can walk past just before sunset and get invited in. For just 1 US dollar the security guard will let you go to the top and you can watch the beautiful sunset over Habana. Best experiance of any of my 4 trips to Cuba.
  • Beautiful building and well maintained.

Where to stay in Havana

Old Havana remains the most popular neighborhood to stay in Cuba's capital. Here you'll find all manner of accommodations, from budget guesthouses and bed and breakfasts to luxury hotels. Some of the back streets in the old town can be quite rough, so visitors with children might want to steer clear of the area. Providing a quieter, more residential alternative, the western suburb of El Vedado exudes a relaxed atmosphere and serves as the perfect spot for a family vacation. If you're after better beach access, look farther west to the upper-class district of Miramar.
