Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web
Head to Plaza del Carmen, one of Camaguey’s most picturesque plazas, featuring cobblestoned streets, life-sized sculptures, and an early 19th-century church. The marble sculptures depict locals going about their everyday lives; find a man reading the newspaper, women gossiping, and a couple in love. According to local legend, the real-life man on whom the newspaper sculpture was based regularly visits the sculpture, to sit next to his likeness and read the newspaper. Look for the church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, which was built in 1825. Put Plaza del Carmen and other Camaguey attractions into our Camaguey vacation route planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • A very nice and cozy square, surrounded by beautifully restored buildings and a church, which however was close when we were there. The whole is decorated with various beautiful bronze figures.
