El Yunque, Baracoa

(4.9/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Spotted way back in 1492 by Christopher Columbus, El Yunque continues to attract those seeking adventure in the exotic and still mysterious Cuban paradise. Rent a bike or a horse, or hike up on foot to reach the top at 575 m (1,886 ft). From there, you'll witness the endless horizon spreading across the deep blue sea, gigantic trees, and colorful flowers of the tropical wilderness. Have in mind that frequent rain showers usually make the terrain muddy and slippery, so wear appropriate hiking boots. Bring a swimsuit for the hip-deep river crossings, crystal clear waterfalls, and natural pools--all welcome refreshment along the way. El Yunque is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Baracoa Edition.

  • A pleasant excursion made in the morning (not too late). we reached the natural park of el younque, starting with a private caravan from baracoa (30 min or so). excursion of about 5 hours (2 hours of walk) to get to the waterfall, passing across a Lake/natural pool with small torrente.ci drove a local bravissima.per to reach the waterfall must cross a natural lake with backpacks on the head (the seabed is not high but with stones and a little slippery); therefore remain our guide leggeri...la tips delivered all backpacks (amazing!!!). our group decided to stay only a few hours to the waterfall and then a little at the pond, but you can stay all day long. I really liked this place. along the way we stopped at a farm where they offered fruits, coffee, chocolate. There you can buy souvenirs and especially (which I highly ...) cocoa butter, oil of occo, chocolate ...

  • Beautiful mountain to climb! Worth it! Great view at the top and beautiful vegetation autour. Not for everyone because with the high temperatures and lack of shadow after the hurricane is still demanding!
