El Yunque, Baracoa

4.9
#1 of 8 in Things to do in Baracoa
Spotted way back in 1492 by Christopher Columbus, El Yunque continues to attract those seeking adventure in the exotic and still mysterious Cuban paradise. Rent a bike or a horse, or hike up on foot to reach the top at 575 m (1,886 ft). From there, you'll witness the endless horizon spreading across the deep blue sea, gigantic trees, and colorful flowers of the tropical wilderness. Have in mind that frequent rain showers usually make the terrain muddy and slippery, so wear appropriate hiking boots. Bring a swimsuit for the hip-deep river crossings, crystal clear waterfalls, and natural pools--all welcome refreshment along the way. El Yunque is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Baracoa Edition.

Rain forest , water falls, beautiful view from tower on a highest hill, and more unusual nature. If you would like to reach the biggest water fall on the deep bottom, there is a long way down by steps...  more »

I promoted business of steep slope by the interesting view and I regret not having promoted with my backpack with the glider. My friend companion Jarri has explained to me that parapnete has never been flown from there and that day had good conditions for making a straight glide flight. It was necessary to fix a bit of tarmac site, but it wasn't very complex. For anyone who has flown once in paragliding, that mountain is a challenge and invitation to take off. In the future it will be one of the attractions of this city, Baracoa. Increases must always be matched with the forest authorities because they are jealous with native vegetation and visitors must have the commitment to take care of every plant and every bug in the place as well as returning with all the trash and debris from your visit.

A nice hike with a rio crossing, opportunity for a swim at the back, quite difficult climb due to the gradient and heat; Arrival, magnificent panorama on the area of Baracoa and the coast. The vegetation of El Yunque is specific and deserves to be protected.
