Medvednica, Zagreb
(4.7/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Get away from busy Zagreb by exploring Medvednica, just a short drive north of the city center. In addition to a major ski resort known for hosting past championship slalom races, the mountain features a series of marked hiking trails popular with adventure seekers and nature lovers. With the majority of its area designated as a protected nature park, most of the mountain remains covered by thick beech forests. Sljeme, the tallest peak, rises to about 1,030 m (3,400 ft) and offers panoramic views of Zagreb. Hike to the top, or explore the longest cave in northern Croatia. Put Medvednica and other Zagreb attractions into our Zagreb trip itinerary builder, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • The top slightly exceeds the 1000 metres, on Medvednica nature park with mount Sljeme protects Zagreb from Northern winds and is at the same time one of the favorite natural places for picnics and excursions outside the city, as well as the place where in early January ski race takes place of the snow Queen. Different paths to reach the top, some not so rough. Shelters where you can have a plate of hot beans are ideal to walk better. The Sljeme is known and frequented mostly by locals, but if like me you are a regular visitor or simply visit Zagreb a second time, you will get there.
