Dolac Market, Zagreb

4.2
#2 of 21 in Shopping in Zagreb
Situated right near the main cathedral, Dolac Market lets tourists experience a slice of local Croatian life. Fresh flowers, regional olive oil, dairy products, and fresh burek are just a few of the items sold here. While these markets are common in Croatian cities, Zagreb's is one of the largest and very popular with the locals. You, too, can do most of your food shopping here: the selection is good, the stall-keepers give lots of information about what they're offering, and in many cases, it's cheaper than the grocery store around the corner. • The dolac is perfect for really ripe fruit and vegetables. For little money you get excellent goods, also available in organic quality, and if you're lucky, the selling speak also German or English. In the halls, there are fish and meat. Absolutely worth a visit!

  • Even if you might not be getting the *best* prices - it's fun to have all your fruits and veggies sold in the same place. Had some really fresh apricots and raspberries in early July
  • it was raining when we were there. Most of the stallholders were getting ready to close the stalls. Do be careful as one of our tour members was pick-pocketed.
  • The main market in the city. Here you can find the best and fresh fruits like orange, lemon, bananas. As well you can buy organic vegetables and meat (and fish).
  • The biggest and the oldest market in Zagreb. You could find anything here, from fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products from small farms near Zagreb, fresh meat and fish. Many restaurant chiefs visit Dolac in daily basis.
  • Gorgeous huge market place packed with local meet, fish, cheese, veggies, pasta.. yummy! Both indoor and outdoor area. Look for the Big Red Umbrellas :-)

Where to stay in Zagreb

Lodging in Croatia's capital Zagreb maintains a high standard, with many centrally located hotels offering significant weekend discounts on their finest rooms. Hostels remain the most affordable option for budget-minded travelers visiting for a day or two, providing small but neat rooms only steps away from the city's most popular bars, clubs, and restaurants. For something a bit quieter, look for self-catering apartments and guesthouses in the city's residential neighborhoods, where you can park for free and get a good night's sleep.
