Zadar City Gate, Zadar
(4.2/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
One of the finest examples of Venetian architecture in Dalmatia, Zadar City Gate features a triumphal arch that offers one passage for vehicles and two for pedestrians. Situated adjacent to the sea, this point has been a vital link between the city of Zadar and the outside area since 1543. The arch reflects Renaissance-style architecture and is adorned with a motif of St. Chrysogonus--the city's main patron saint--as well as a large monumental lion of St. Mark, and a Venetian coat of arms. • Clean and beautiful to visit. offers a lot of history and attractions. Very romantic at sunset, a beautiful sunset over the sea.

  • Lovely place to visit, nice bars and restaurants, the weather wasn't bad for the time of year and taxis are not expensive.
  • The front door of Zadar is, like the rest of the city, well maintained. It is topped by a place that reminds the legacy of the Venetian domination of the region.

  • the old city is surrounded by a wall, built by the Romans and fortified in the 16th century, highlighting the door of St. Rok and the port (Port Gate) containing inscriptions of the battle of Lepanto in 1571. well worth walking the Boardwalk and some of its sections to admire this work.
