Zadar City Gate, Zadar
(4.2/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
One of the finest examples of Venetian architecture in Dalmatia, Zadar City Gate features a triumphal arch that offers one passage for vehicles and two for pedestrians. Situated adjacent to the sea, this point has been a vital link between the city of Zadar and the outside area since 1543. The arch reflects Renaissance-style architecture and is adorned with a motif of St. Chrysogonus--the city's main patron saint--as well as a large monumental lion of St. Mark, and a Venetian coat of arms. • Zadar was pleasantly a very nice stop on our RC cruise to the Greek Island. It was clean and a nice visit to the sea organ and the old city
  • In the old town of Zadar can be found even Roman remains. Unfortunately, little of the historic buildings is left

  • the old city is surrounded by a wall, built by the Romans and fortified in the 16th century, highlighting the door of St. Rok and the port (Port Gate) containing inscriptions of the battle of Lepanto in 1571. well worth walking the Boardwalk and some of its sections to admire this work.
