Morske Orgulje (Sea Organ), Zadar
(4.6/5 based on 3,000+ reviews on the web)
At Morske Orgulje (Sea Organ), see the world's first musical pipe organs played by the sea. Descend the white marble steps leading to the water and enjoy the never-ending concert. Waves and wind interact with 35 tubes tuned to create random, harmonic sounds. In 2005 Nikola Basic designed the organ, which recently received the European Prize for Urban Public Space. From here gaze at a stunning sunset on the ocean. Alfred Hitchcock once visited and did the same. Put Morske Orgulje (Sea Organ) at the forefront of your travel plans using our Zadar vacation trip planner.

  • It was so beautiful to hear the sea organ during the sunset, but at the same time strange, it can be the soundtrack of a terror movie. You should go!
  • We were all thrilled with the visit to the pier. It's a very nice walk the sea organ is brilliant. The noise created by the wind and the tides are always changing, it is worth going there. In August 2016, I don't know if it is permanent, there was also a beautiful photographic exhibition with wonderful photos of Croatia.

  • An attraction / monument unique in the world (apparently), is a delight to sit in the Sun with your ice cream and enjoy the sounds created by the waves in this unique instrument. It is next to the tribute to the Sun which is also rather curious.

  • I have been here a few times. Great in winter with a stormy sea. You can really hear the sounds on the other side of the old town! Such a fascinating piece of sound art. We'll worth visiting.
  • Very cool experience. Go later in the day when the water is choppy. We went in the morning and barely heard anything and were really disappointed. We came back for sunset and it much better! The Salutation to the Sun is right there as well so either go at night or at sunset and stick around. There is a surprising lack of anything there so if you want food/drink, get it and bring for a picnic.
  • Very unique and fun musical instrument build into the sea wall. The wind creates a nice sound as it passes through the organ. Must see if you're visiting Zadar.
  • They say that Zadar has one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world (Alfred Hitchcock), but this contemporary feat of engineering and architecture is a great adition to the old town. If you come at night after a sunny day you can marvel in the beautiful display of the Sun installation. But whenever you come you can listen to the sea making peaceful sounds while hitting the organ.
  • Sound comes from the sea water moving through the organ pipes. Interesting and unique experience. The sounds invite to meditation but can become a bit annoying after a while.
