Morske Orgulje (Sea Organ), Zadar

4.6
At Morske Orgulje (Sea Organ), see the world's first musical pipe organs played by the sea. Descend the white marble steps leading to the water and enjoy the never-ending concert. Waves and wind interact with 35 tubes tuned to create random, harmonic sounds. In 2005 Nikola Basic designed the organ, which recently received the European Prize for Urban Public Space. From here gaze at a stunning sunset on the ocean. Alfred Hitchcock once visited and did the same. This is an 'organ' that just uses holes and pipes that water swishes through and makes 'music' - weird  more »

The sea organ is the iron point of sightseeing during their stay in Zadar. This unusual installation will surely surprise many a tourist, who decides to sit down on the stairs and listen to in the Adriatic Sea to admire one of the most beautiful sunsets.

Driving from Zagreb to Split, a great place for lunch, and found this. On the expansive boardwalk, a large solar panel installation built into the walk, and these strange "holes", arranged in rows, along the concrete boardwalk. Then, we noticed this odd melodic "howling" sound....maybe more like a "tooting" sound.....it was the waves, causing the air under the boardwalk, to "play" these odd holes....What a lovely surprise! I was told, that at night, the solar panels would power the lights on the pier in a music and light filled display, but alas, Split beckoned and I missed out.

What an extraordinary place! You must see and hear for yourself! This is a favorite of both locals and tourists so be prepared for crowds. I went mid week so it was not too bad. Very clean and beautiful. I would love to come back.

I loved how relaxing this was! Sitting with your feet in the water and listening to the sea organ is the greatest way to end the day. It is a unique experience not to be missed!

Worth place to visit! Best place to watch sunset and listen natural music made by wind. Our kids were playing with the solar panels lights and had great fun.

A unique and very cleverly designed work of art. Very peaceful even though it was a main attraction. Great to see locals and tourists sharing and enjoying!!

Where to stay in Zadar

If proximity to the sights in Zadar is your priority, opt to stay in the old town, a compact area packed with historical buildings. Although this area offers few budget-friendly hotel rooms, you can choose from affordable hostels within walking distance of the city's main sights. Zadar's resort hotels tend to hug the coastline, a short drive out of the city. Book ahead if you want to stay there, or stop by the city's tourist office for a list of private rooms closer to the city center.
