Riva Harbor, Split

4.5
#1 of 77 in Shopping in Croatia
Walk along Riva Harbor, the city's seafront promenade, considered to be among Europe's finest. The site served as a palace of Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 3rd and 4th centuries CE; today it offers modern commodities and cafes that blend into the emperor's lavish property. Stroll along the turquoise Adriatic Sea lined with palm trees and stone buildings, and snap photos of the town that sits among green mountains the bay. Visit cozy cafes and eateries, watch street performers, and breathe in the fresh sea air. • Along the riva at night, this place becomes a party place as there are maybe boat parties and drunk young teenagers shouting in their own language. It is really lit and really good party place for tee...  more »
  • Sure, every visitor should even run along the promenade and enjoy an ice cream or even lunch. The care leaves much to be desired. On the water in places heavily smells drain and the courses are littered in places and smeared with graffiti. Very embarrassing for the second largest city in Croatia.

  • Strolling the Riva it seems, with less size, that you are walking along the promenade of playa Levante Benidorm. All bars and restaurants with waiters to the onslaught of tourists (luckily there was no paellas). Otherwise a typical walk punctuated occasionally by facades of buildings with character although covered by posters and neon lights of the catering business. Well to give a paseíllo, view the environment and eat a rich ice cream.

  • The most popular place in town for coffee on a sea front, filled with cafe bars, pizza cuts, jewellery shops.
  • Beautiful area of Split, combining history with modernity in a way that doesn't feel forced. Stunning buildings bump up against a busy, working port and an ancient Roman palace, and none feel out of place.
  • Best place in split for enjoying in the city , you have a excellent view on sea , and sunsets
  • Nice place amazing old town but place smells horrible all the time and it is not really clean. Hope it will change in future
  • Good port with interesting old town and good shopping

Where to stay in Split

Split and its surrounding area boast an extensive system of private accommodations for rent, which range from simply furnished rooms to elegantly outfitted multi-room apartments. Many locals approach travelers at the main bus station with offers of available lodgings, but before you agree to anything, make sure you know the room's exact location in reference to the town center. For something more luxurious, check out the city's four- and five-star hotels, or consider an elegant villa a walk away from the major sights.
