In the heart of the city look for the ruins of Palazzo di Diocleziano--a significant example of Roman architecture and a World Heritage Site. Between 295 and 305 CE, the Roman Emperor built the palace near his birthplace as his retirement home. Walk under the Silver Gate and enter the the Peristyle, the central open-air area. Opposite the gate is the medieval church of St. Dominic, formerly Diocletian's Mausoleum. Admire the excavated remains of the palace's basement. Look for the two granite sphinxes, which Diocletian brought from Egypt. One is still on the Peristyle, and the second sits headless in front of Jupiter's temple. This palace is in a class of its own. It was clearly built so carefully and strong with an eye for longevity. Although we do not know much about what objects adorned its haughty spaces, one can feel t... more »

It is worth visiting with peace of mind what remains is a reflection of what it was but it serves to see how impressive it had to be.
Great place. Beautiful white stone buildings. Lovely little walkway. It will not give you a "wow" feeling but a wonderful warm peaceful atmosphere. And GOT fans. You all will love it. Bonus lots of GOT related shops
Split is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and the Palace is one of its centre-pieces. The old city square will make you feel as if you were back in ancient Roman times. Visit Split, but take care of it, as well, because recent tourist influx threatens its cultural heritage.
It was great, with a touch of history and media popularity. Sue enough, The Game of Thrones affected the level of this place attraction. There are many souvenir shops completely devoted to the series. However, the history still prevails, and you can take pics with the legionnaires or listen to the national music. I mostly liked the underground level which was occupied by traditional souvenir shops.
If you go to Split then this is a must. Beautiful exposed white stone Romanesque buildings that really stand out and create a wonderful atmosphere helping you almost visualize what this city must have looked like hundreds of years ago. From my perspective the church, baptistery and crypt visit is well worth it even though it will be o my the church that leaves a lasting memory.
We were walking through the streets and suddenly found this beautiful place. The architecture is wonderful, there’s a lovely square where you can seat and order something to drink while you listen to live music. Everyone was singing together, it was a memorable moment.
