Old Split, Split

(4.6/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web)
Walk through the historic core of Old Split to see one of the best-preserved Roman remains in the world: the Diocletian palace. The town joined the list of World Heritage Sites in 1979. Enter the open-air central area of the palace and climb the campanile of St. Domnius cathedral. Enjoy a panoramic view of Split, nearby islands, and Marjan hill. Don't miss the chance to rub the big toe of the giant statue of Gregory of Nin, outside the palace gate, and make a wish. Other sites to see include 12th- and 13th-century Romanesque churches, medieval forts, 15th-century Gothic palaces, and Renaissance and Baroque-style palaces. • Split old town is concentrated around the Palace of Diocletian. Perhaps he is not as posh as the old town of Dubrovnik, but, in my opinion, has some great facilities such as, for example, the Bell Tower, overlooking the port and the city, and many more interesting things. Be sure to wander there, only slowly).

  • A wonderful croatian town that just begs to be explored, with a warm and friendly population and a charm and character all of it's own.  more »
  • Best of Split, Diocletian's Palace, of course, if you know or you have to see the old town of Dubrovnik you'll realize that Split you know little, however enjoyed its central square a curious bar where you can sit to drink and watch the people go by
