Old Split, Split
(4.6/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web)
Walk through the historic core of Old Split to see one of the best-preserved Roman remains in the world: the Diocletian palace. The town joined the list of World Heritage Sites in 1979. Enter the open-air central area of the palace and climb the campanile of St. Domnius cathedral. Enjoy a panoramic view of Split, nearby islands, and Marjan hill. Don't miss the chance to rub the big toe of the giant statue of Gregory of Nin, outside the palace gate, and make a wish. Other sites to see include 12th- and 13th-century Romanesque churches, medieval forts, 15th-century Gothic palaces, and Renaissance and Baroque-style palaces. • It is worth the time to just wander around the old town, it's hard to get lost as the city is so small yet it can uncover some great gems.

  • The old town of Split is very interesting and it is possible to visit all on foot, which is a plus since in any case it is very difficult to be able to park the car.
