We visited Šibenik beating about 50 km stretch, the beautiful landscape of the road from Trogir. We drove there primarily to see the local Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Because it was a Sunday morning, in the old part of the town there were still tourists, the city slowly roused to life and we were able to freely Park near the Cathedral and later wander alone through the narrow streets. Visitation of the Cathedral on Sunday, however, was the failure, that the people began to accumulate before the mass and not wanting to disturb them in prayer we limit the stay inside the temple. Overall, the place is easily accessible, and the location close to the motorway node makes all who in the summer visit Dalmatia not only for Sun and warm sea can enjoy a view of the beautifully situated town. Looked at the reviews about the object and next to these favorable found such that can be summed up in the phrase "the Cathedral as the Cathedral". Me this church surprised so much that when you return I had to sort out the what I saw. Especially surprising is uniformity of design. Many Gothic cathedrals were created by the dozens or even hundreds of years, during which changed applicable in the architecture style but the construction continued in line with the earlier concept. Here we see a thorough change, which applies not only to the introduction of the Renaissance form object and architectural details, but above all the construction of the vaults of surmounting the Church. The shape of the dome based on an octagonal drum is a classic Renaissance and recalls (in miniature) created by Brunelleschi's dome (double monastery vaults) Florence's Duomo. At the same time, the barrel-vaulted ceiling of the main nave, with clearly outlined the men's pommel horse (gurtami), evokes the rather memory vaults of surmounting Romanesque churches. Maybe it's my professional swerve construction Builder but it surprised me that the vaults of the naves not performed as usual with stone blocks, but of kilkumetrowej length. The impression was all the greater when I noticed that they do not have their roof and looking at the building from the top we can admire their design. Here we see the proud beauty of design that has survived the passage of time, war and natural disasters, and probably will for a long time a monument to the glory of Niccolò di Giovanni Fiorentino-15TH century sculptor and architect who in Šibenik, continuing the work of Giorgio di Matteo, was highly appreciated by its artistic life.
