Trsat Castle, Rijeka
(4.3/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
On the site of castles dating to the Roman period, Trsat Castle today bears the marks of a later reconstruction in Neo-Gothic style. The castle changed hands multiple times between the 14th and 19th centuries, finally falling into the hands of an eccentric Austro-Hungarian naval officer who undertook its massive restoration. The castle features a stereotypical medieval tower and a Greek facade complete with columns and statues. Be sure to make your way to one of the terrace cafes for a view of Kvarner Bay. From there you'll have an unobstructed view of other ruins on nearby islands. Make Trsat Castle part of your personalized Rijeka itinerary using our Rijeka itinerary planner.

  • From the Trsat castle you can see Rijeka and Opatija while drinking coffee. Great feeling. Nearby is Trsat church and you can visit it with a beautiful park around it. There is a statue of Pope John P...  more »
  • A nice walk from the historic centre to the Castle, when I didn't pay anything. The Castle lies in the mountains of sovereign city since the 13th century. NOT TO BE MISSED: THE VISITATION.

  • I stayed in the immediate vicinity of the Castle. A little gem tucked away on a hill that slowly leads to the sea through the dozens and dozens of stairs and thousands of steps of which the town of RIJEKA has made feature to reach it (the sea) with strenuous uphill walks and relaxing in the descent. But I can say that it's worth absolutely visit this little ancient village and as well maintained and remodeled to perfection, much to enchant the visitor unprepared. The bar in the Castle, with spectacular views of the city and the sea, invites to linger for hours, thanks to the hospitality of the managers learned and trained in the art of the cocktail. Please go into the sunset, true natural spectacle
