Sit on the stone tiers of Pula Arena, and imagine how gladiators fought wild animals and each other in the central area. The arena was built in the 1st century CE during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, at the same time as the Roman Colosseum. Walk the underground passages, once used by the gladiators, and see the exhibition of age-old viticulture and olive growing in Istria. Check out the reconstructions of ancient mills and presses, and amphorae used for storing olive oil and wine. The venue was also a site of knights' tournaments and fairs in the Middle Ages. Today it hosts summer performances--a film festival, an equestrian festival, operas, and concerts. Make Pula Arena a part of your Pula vacation plans using our Pula trip planner.

  • Great place to visit, the structure is impressive and the exhibition is very informative. The restrooms were clean. Unfortunately there is an audio guide which is run by an subcontractor company...

  • The Pula arena is a must see when you are visiting. Come on a nice warm day and enjoy the sun and ancient history. The admission price is very reasonable, students get discounts. The history is spread out in front of you and it is incredible. The olive oil works are in the subterranean level and it's pretty impressive.
  • Stunning place of Roman history. The Pula Arena is a Roman amphitheatre located in Pula, Croatia. It is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre to have four side towers entirely preserved. It was constructed between 27 BC and AD 68, and is among the world's six largest surviving Roman arenas. The arena is also the country's best-preserved ancient monument.
  • Amazing amphitheater! This is THE best sight in Pula. Bigger then I thought. A must visit. IMHO, visiting it from the inside doesn't worth the entrance fee. Walking around it is for free and absolutely astonishing.
  • Incredible! Loved wandering around the arena. Unlike the Roman coliseum, you can wander over and under every part of the arena with the cost of admission. Get a guided tour if you can, that will make the experience better. Exit through the gift shop!
  • A stunning amphitheater that’s the best preserved of its kind. Many famous performances have been hosted here in recent times. It’s got super clean toilets and is surrounded by local coffees houses a few minutes walk. From the top seats you can see the sea. Parking is good quality but limited and super busy.
