Sit on the stone tiers of Pula Arena, and imagine how gladiators fought wild animals and each other in the central area. The arena was built in the 1st century CE during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, at the same time as the Roman Colosseum. Walk the underground passages, once used by the gladiators, and see the exhibition of age-old viticulture and olive growing in Istria. Check out the reconstructions of ancient mills and presses, and amphorae used for storing olive oil and wine. The venue was also a site of knights' tournaments and fairs in the Middle Ages. Today it hosts summer performances--a film festival, an equestrian festival, operas, and concerts. Make Pula Arena a part of your Pula vacation plans using our Pula trip planner.

Pula Arena reviews
Interesting ruins but not worth the 70 Kuna entrance fee...! Especially if you've been to other similar Roman ruins in Italy or elsewhere. more »
I was sad to see this site so empty. Maybe it is because you can see the amphitheater from the outside, so many people just take pics and leave without entering. Don't make that mistake, enter and... more »
Any first visit to Pula should include checking out the Pula Arena--and not just from the outside. (Despite what some people think--"you can see everything from the outside"--there's more to the... more »
The Pula arena is a must see when you are visiting. Come on a nice warm day and enjoy the sun and ancient history. The admission price is very reasonable, students get discounts. The history is spread out in front of you and it is incredible. The olive oil works are in the subterranean level and it's pretty impressive.
Great place! It is not necessary to pay the entrance to see it. You can see it from outside. But to get better views and pictures, there you have to pay the entrance ticket which is worth it. It cost 70 kn per person but if you’re student you can present your id card and is half price. Very interesting history and place.
Really nice place. It's the only one "Colosseum-like" building I've seen so far and it is just stunning. And as I was visiting there was a gladiator tournament held there which was pretty awesome and boosted the atmosphere. There were restaurants and coffee shops around it.
Wonderful place full of history. The amphitheatre is constructed by limestone and his height is 30m. It has 15 gates. If you are in the city don't forget to go to the beaches around and also you can take the ferryboat to Venice. One day trip to Venice can be a good choice.
Come to this place to see true 👍 history and magical places with nice food and people who are full of happiness 😊 and love. The prices are not bad, actually is even less expensive than in my country (Italy). Croatia 🇭🇷 is awesome 👌.
