Arco dei Sergi, Pula

4.1
Built to celebrate one of Rome's most pivotal battles, Arco dei Sergi showcases the remnants of some of the city's imposing walls. Visit the arch, constructed in 27 BCE, to see its ornate decorations consisting of Corinthian columns, intricate reliefs, and extensive facade carvings. Look closer, and you'll find that depictions include war chariots, soldiers, and the names of the Romans it commemorates and whose powerful families funded the construction. Wander the area surrounding the former gate, explore the nearby shops, or stop into a cafe overlooking the structure. Arco dei Sergi is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Pula Edition.

  • It of not bad so do not especially. As you walk the streets, you will definitely see it. He would think to clean it...

  • A very beautiful monument. Located right in the Centre between many restaurants and shops. In this area, you can like to linger and snap. The bow is part of the cityscape and is shielded by barriers, not. Wonderful also the history for this.

  • This arch, now missing its side bits (it was part of a gate and the city walls), is striking but is in need of urgent care and attention. It's a pity that there is little evidence of conservation. And...  more »

  • It's a nice arch. Quite old. I used to drive a car through it in the late eighties. Now it's not allowed anymore. Still a nice arch ;) You can enjoy a view from nearby coffee shops (there's one on the nearby roof terrace - don't miss it!)
  • Quite a spectacular sight. Nothing much else than an arch but the surrounding buildings are interesting. Bars and restaurants close by too!
  • Triumphal Arch of Sergi is the most famous monument in Pula visited by more tourists. Just a few steps from the Roman Arch of Sergi in coffe bar Uliks is memorial tablet placed on building where Jame Joyce trought the English language.
  • Just marvelous! Entire city of Pula, Istria, or Croatian coast for that matter should be visited at least once!
  • Beautiful place to visit. You can take really cool pictures. There are also a cafés and restaurants next to the arch.

Where to stay in Pula

Although Pula offers a limited choice of mid-range hotels in and around the old town, you can still stay affordably near this part of the city by renting a room from one of the local families. Check the city's main tourist office for a list of registered owners, or look for window signs advertising rooms for rent. The most popular resort hotels remain in the well-developed areas near the sea, easily reachable from the city center by car or public bus.
