Aquarium Pula, Pula

3.8
#1 of 61 in Outdoors in Istria
Housed in a historical, Austro-Hungarian fortress, Aquarium Pula hosts an array of local aquatic wildlife, a sea turtle rescue center, and a series of related exhibits. Visit the complex on a peninsula, and explore its two floors of underwater habitats from the Mediterranean and Adriatic seas. In addition to European flora and fauna, the aquarium also features exotic and tropical fish from around the globe. Stop by the sea turtle center to learn more about the rehabilitation program for injured reptiles before they're returned to the wild. Continue through the complex to see the evolutionary development through fossil displays. Be sure to stop by the special section dedicated to Croatia's and the Balkan region's population of freshwater river and lake creatures. • Nice aquarium on the way to the floor and cellar, nothing special. like sealife. except there's sea turtles

  • The real find is that it was housed in an old Austrian fortress then combines the charm of the fish species (some really rare) present in the tanks at the well preserved walls that "smell" of history! To see absolutely

  • A lot of tanks and pools organised in different ways explaining different parts of sea and life in it. Everything is arranged in a historical fortress (high moist can be problem for some). Aquarium is...  more »

  • Nice time here with children. There're numbers of sea life, ray, turtles, sharks and octopus. Good set up in an old fortress. Recommended for a family with young children. Will be a relaxed time for parents. :)
  • Really beautiful aquarium unique one. Placed in old austrohungarian fortress we love it.
  • Nemo is here ☺ my son enjoyed a lot. For me very impressive was the shark dance & fish nursery.
  • Ridiculous! Expensive and there's nothing to see. The tanks are tiny and dirty. The animals are held in horrible conditions, they are barely alive. The place is dark and smells horrible. The posters are worse than an elementary school project, they look more like a joke in 2017 than a serious aquarium! Guards by the entrance of the park also won't let you enter, you have to find parking in the area and walk to the aquarium (500meters) This place should be closed! DOES NOT WORTH THE MONEY OR YOUR TIME!
  • Reasonable attraction. Not the best aquarium ever but a highlight of a fairly dull resort if you don't care for sport.

Where to stay in Pula

Although Pula offers a limited choice of mid-range hotels in and around the old town, you can still stay affordably near this part of the city by renting a room from one of the local families. Check the city's main tourist office for a list of registered owners, or look for window signs advertising rooms for rent. The most popular resort hotels remain in the well-developed areas near the sea, easily reachable from the city center by car or public bus.
