Jama - Grotta Baredine, Porec
(4.6/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
Take a guided tour of Jama - Grotta Baredine, an underground cave filled with sculptures, lakes, and odd little creatures called "human fish," found only in this part of the world. Due to millennia of complete darkness and seclusion, this cave has developed a world of its own--the temperature inside is constantly around 14 C (57 F), the walls are moist, and the ornaments otherworldly. The "human fish" are actually aquatic salamanders that are white to pinkish in color and blind. Walk the 300 m (1,000 ft) long pathway, visit five chambers, and hear facts about the cave. Make Jama - Grotta Baredine part of your personalized Porec itinerary using our Porec vacation builder.

  • After visiting a lot of caves in Croatia and surroundings I can say that this is one of the most interesting ones. The tour, as far as I can remember, takes you 60-70 meters in underground through fou...  more »
  • Beautiful cave not too far from Porec, guide was friendly and knew a lot to tell, to be able to do this activity you should be in good shape, you should be pretty much up and down stairs.

  • On the way of a trip we have greed a stop inserted. Very well signposted route leads over partially shadow to a large parking lot, due to the trees has. The price is right. Guided tours are offered in different languages. The waiting time is not very long. On many levels (suitable for guests with a disability!) explored this stunning underworld. The very good german speaking guide explains everything to the many thousands of years-old cones that hang from the ceiling or grow out of the ground. Two small Grotto salamanders that were brought up extra from the still much deeper water are a highlight. With much imagination you can also one down in the cave. See Maria in the cones. Duration of the tour is approximately 45 minutes. The rise back to light is somewhat exhausting. TIP: Also a small museum with archaeological objects found on the site. Also a nice little restaurant and a souvenir shop is built on the site. A visit is highly recommended on very clear!

  • Lovely little cave experience - you go down a small winding cave to a pool about 200m below the surface. Good cafe on site with plenty of seating. Guide very knowledgeable and funny. Not expensive. Over 200 steps (which you go down and have to come back up), so not for those with mobility issues or who are physically challenged.
  • Do you like caves? You want to see endemic amphibia species (Proteus anguinus) at the bottom of the cave? Then you should visit Jama Baredine. Descent to the bottom is easy and almost everyone can do it. And the temperature in the cave is nice and refreshing! The tour is entertaining, e.g. you will see gloving crystals etc.
  • Very interesting and dfferent cave, must see! The guide was also really cool and gave us many information about the history of the cave. The price of 70 Kn for adults is for Croatia a bit high, but the money was worth it.
  • 279 stairs, and some tight-ish spaces. Not bad if you're fit. Not good if you're not. Super friendly guide. I loved it and the kids were fascinated.
  • Beautiful and gorgeous! The pictures don't do it justice. The guide was excellent and informative. The return trip up is challenging, but worth it.
