Jama - Grotta Baredine, Porec

(4.6/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
Take a guided tour of Jama - Grotta Baredine, an underground cave filled with sculptures, lakes, and odd little creatures called "human fish," found only in this part of the world. Due to millennia of complete darkness and seclusion, this cave has developed a world of its own--the temperature inside is constantly around 14 C (57 F), the walls are moist, and the ornaments otherworldly. The "human fish" are actually aquatic salamanders that are white to pinkish in color and blind. Walk the 300 m (1,000 ft) long pathway, visit five chambers, and hear facts about the cave. Make Jama - Grotta Baredine part of your personalized Porec itinerary using our Porec vacation builder.

  • If you're nearby Council a visit to these beautiful caves. It comes down to more than 60 metres and you can see the Proteus, an amphibian which is almost exclusively here. Nice location, and the guide was very friendly in answering our questions and tell us in an interesting history of the cave and interesting anecdotes

  • Definitely worth a visit. Lots of stairs though so be weary if you are with elders or little ones. Travels close to 200 ft down. The workers are great and there's a cafe on site.  more »
  • This is one of the most beautiful caves, where I managed to visit, and I was in about a dozen caves! everything very important, well organized, you can see the nearby park with ancient technology, but I don't got. not looking but that was with two children, one of whom was two years old at the time, was quite comfortable, all beautifully lit and of course Crown tours underground inhabitant of "the human fish" Turkey dwells only in those places! Very cool everything there!

  • Lovely little cave experience - you go down a small winding cave to a pool about 200m below the surface. Good cafe on site with plenty of seating. Guide very knowledgeable and funny. Not expensive. Over 200 steps (which you go down and have to come back up), so not for those with mobility issues or who are physically challenged.
  • Do you like caves? You want to see endemic amphibia species (Proteus anguinus) at the bottom of the cave? Then you should visit Jama Baredine. Descent to the bottom is easy and almost everyone can do it. And the temperature in the cave is nice and refreshing! The tour is entertaining, e.g. you will see gloving crystals etc.
  • Very interesting and dfferent cave, must see! The guide was also really cool and gave us many information about the history of the cave. The price of 70 Kn for adults is for Croatia a bit high, but the money was worth it.
  • 279 stairs, and some tight-ish spaces. Not bad if you're fit. Not good if you're not. Super friendly guide. I loved it and the kids were fascinated.
  • Beautiful and gorgeous! The pictures don't do it justice. The guide was excellent and informative. The return trip up is challenging, but worth it.
