Kosljun - Monastery Museum, Krk Island

3.9
#2 of 9 in Museums in Kvarner Bay Islands
On a little island surrounded by dark turquoise water, just across from the mainland, you'll find Kosljun - Monastery Museum. The island is known for its 16th century Franciscan monastery, and for the extensive collection of artifacts and items that monks have been collecting here for centuries. The collection today has been turned into a museum within the white, arched walls of the original monastery. The museum showcases productions of both Krk fishermen and farmers, authentic costumes, a zoological collection, and a library. The church here is a museum in itself, having been converted to the Baroque style in the 18th century. Many important pieces of art, including Ptolemy's atlas, can be found here. • The monastery island of Kosljun is reachable by boat from Punat of - they drive quite frequently, and are reasonably priced. Kosljun can be at is such a long time, as one would like. The Church and the Museum are worth a visit in any case. A walk about the island chapels and an olive garden is beautiful.

  • If you take a boat to visit the waterfront of Punat Košljun, you cannot but see the complex in ancient times Benedictine then Franciscan, as can be seen from the statue in which you encounter upon arrival, depicting Saint Francis and the Wolf. Now you pay the ticket a few Kuna that will give you access. The Church is interesting with a 16th century polyptych and a wooden choir noteworthy, the cloister is impressive, what they call an ethnographic museum is a collection of traditional costumes of the island of Krk as well as everyday items, some reality photography and, finally, a macabre detail of monstrous animals or with birth defects found on the island today in formalin to the delight of visitors more morbid. Things to see are many but should be organised better, one wonders why the brothers do not show multiple environments for example. Visit Košljun for me is positive, there have been several times over the years, but I have to say that it could "grant".
