Zavratnica, Jablanac

#3 of 13 in Things to do in Lika-Senj County
Zavratnica is a 900 m long narrow inlet located at the foot of the mighty Velebit Mountains, in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea, 1 km south of Jablanac, Croatia. Regarded as one of the major tourist attractions of the northern coastal area because of its beauty, Zavratnica was designated a protected landscape in 1964.DescriptionZavratnica is 50–150 m wide, with a narrow entrance, and up to 100 m sides which are very steep. It only resembles a fjord. Its geological origin is very different from the formation of fjords. A mountain stream became flooded as the surface of the sea rose (transgression after the last ice age), and so a cove was formed quite similar in appearance to a fjord.

Great little place. If you bet the Navigator says Zavratnica takes you to the top to admire this fjord. After about 15 minutes by car, you take the path along the rocky coast and reach paradise Cove. We were with 2 dogs, no problem. There is a chemical bath. Cost of entry to this protected area 20 Kuna per person. Bring food, drink etc, xke there are no bars, it's a fabulous place. There are numerous fish and fascinating even the wreck of a warship. Strollers I come without problems, there are only roughly 10 of steps on the way. Approximately 20-30 minutes, exposed to the Sun. Magnificent view at each point. It is a pleasure to even walk! There are trees that provide shelter shady and cool. At 12 and at 15.00 arrive tourist boats for about an hour then at that juncture is more crowded, otherwise quiet. Lulled by the waves, cicadas, butterflies, spectacular landscape.

The Bay is overrated in my opinion. The Water is murky especially after you have 100 people in the water. The minute we arrived a tourist boat came with approx. 100 people so i did like the bay. The w...  more »

A really nice and relaxing place. The water is really clear. If you want to relax here you have to pay 20 Kuna each person. You can park your car for free in the village next to it and walk to it by foot. It's about a 20-30 minute walk.

Truly unbelieveable. Must see if you are a real Velebit fan much as myself.
