Pakleni Otoci, Hvar
(4.6/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Pakleni Otoci offers many peaceful coves for diving, underwater fishing, swimming, and water sports. The name is popularly translated as Hells' islands, but it originally derives from "paklina," an archaic word, meaning "tar." The islands are especially popular with visitors who have smaller yachts. If you're such a visitor, moor your boat in the Palmizana marina and watch the waves wash onto the sandy cove surrounded by pine forests. Go scuba diving near Vodnjak--the island the mayor wanted to rename Facebook. For a lovely dinner, head to Galesnik, a former artillery fort-turned-eco-island. The islands are full of naturist beaches, which feature showers and charming shops. Use our Hvar vacation trip planner to arrange your visit to Pakleni Otoci and other attractions in Hvar.

  • Wonderful beaches, although Rocky and with stones. The water is cold, but it's worth every dive, especially at the height of summer. Snorkeling is more than recommended. Watch out for sea urchins, it is quite valid to buy that footwear that is sold in any place (50 kunas in August/16). Personally, I preferred the Jerolim Beach (a nudist, but is allowed to attend in a bikini, and I haven't seen many practitioners of nudism). You arrive on the island by means of boats, scattered throughout the riva.

  • Once upon a time the Republic of Venice and Hvar, the current Hvar, was a stopping point of the Venetian galleys, so much so that Venice had built an arsenal, still standing, where you can repair his ships. And rennovations carried the ships the islets facing the Harbour, the "Pakleni Islands where doing arenare ships, at low tide, shallow, could" spread "pitch on the fairings as we give the antifouling at our bar. From here, those Islands began to be called "The Pakleni", a name still used by the natives of those localities. Today they are popular tourist destination, its bays, coves and inlets are many pearls of our sea, to say nothing of the many restaurants for all tastes and budgets

  • Must go, if you are visiting Hvar. I recommend Palmizana island, very nice beaches.
  • Pretty little island. Basically a yacht club, mooring point. Crazy vegetation, smallish beach but plenty of swim points.
  • Rent a boat and take it out to the islands. Keep going past the Carpe Diem crowds and rental yachts until you find your own private cove for relaxing and swimming. The fish are plentiful and water is so clear you can always see the bottom. The sea gulls may not like your presence, but there is no better place to relax.
  • I have visited the island with our rent catamaran. Peaceful place.
  • Beautiful island.
