Inspirock Rating:
3.6/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web
Although heavily damaged in a 1667 earthquake, the formerly lavish Onophrian Fountain was modeled by a famous artist from Naples, Onofrio della Cava. Built in 1438, the fountain featured complex ornaments and 16 streams, which you can see today as they flow from the mouths of images along the fountain. Stop by and see why the locals have a special bond with this fountain. You can quench your thirst here, as the water is potable. • No longer connected to a water supply, the fountain was the place where visitors to the city were expected to bathe on entry, presumably to keep a check on disease.
  • As soon as you enter the decumano (the high road straight for about 200 m) on the right this fountain in round and with dome rebuilt immediately shows the beauty of the city.

  • It is just you enter through the Pile gate. In the beginning, it was created by Onofrio to supply water to the city, since it lacked enough vital element during the summers. It is restored since it was daniada by the first earthquake and war then. It is possible to sit on its edge to rest and drink fresh water from it.
