Lopud Island, Dubrovnik

4.5
#6 of 9 in Nature in Dubrovnik
Sunbathe, swim, and explore at Lopud Island, famous for its sandy beaches. Head to the bay on the southwest side, which is almost round with a narrow entrance and filled with white sand. Follow the footpath through the valley to the village on the other side of the island. The island was inhabited 4,000 of years, so look for old Greek, Roman, and Slavic ruins. Visit the former garden of a 19th-century villa turned park, which features trees, bamboo, and various types of cacti. During your visit, you'll have access to snacks, cold drinks, sun beds, and beach umbrellas for rent. • We took a full day boat trip to three Islands - Lopud, Sipan and Kolacep. Which meant we only spend hours at each. Lopud was our favourite. Nice stretch of beach, cafes, bars and ice cream shops.  more »
  • As part of a private tour we stopped on Lopud for a few hours. It has a slightly hippie, cool feel. Plenty of places to eat and drink and good bathing stops. We took a short ride on the buggies to the...  more »
  • Small island visiting next Sipan and Kolocep departing from Dubrovnik. Money's worth of which provide excursions.

  • The island was great but everything (restaurant and supermarkets) was way too overpriced for a really average quality of food. the beach was nice but too many umbrellas and bed you barely have space for put your own towel. And the umbrella was quite pricey (16£). There is an ugly hotel which spoil the view of marvelous island.
  • Lovely and typical of this great cruising area
  • Great little island. Great place to stay.

Where to stay in Dubrovnik

One of Croatia's major tourist destinations, Dubrovnik remains one of the most expensive cities in the country, especially if you wish to stay in the old town at peak season. You can choose from upscale hotel rooms just east of the old town, but for budget-friendly beds you may have to go as far as the outskirts of town. Many locals rent small rooms in their private homes, so look for rental signs in windows or check with the city's tourist office.
