Swim, marvel at exotic plants, and walk with peacocks at Lokrum Island. Visit the site where, according to legend, King Richard the Lionheart was cast safely ashore after a shipwreck during his return from the crusades. The area was also once a favorite summer retreat of Austrian archduke Maximilian. To get to the island, ride a ferry from the city. Enjoy a dip in the small salt lake, which is 10 m (33ft) deep and known as the Dead Sea. Visit the botanical garden to admire Mediterranean plants, including laurels, oaks, pines, cypresses, olives, agaves, cacti, magnolia, and palms. If you'd like to take a journey back in time, explore the deserted 11th-century Benedictine monastery. • You don’t need the whole day to visit, but I thought it was totally worth it to visit the Dead Sea, the botanical gardens, the « iron throne », etc... rabbits and peacock were also entertaining. I...  more »
  • Super peaceful and beautiful. Surrounded by peacocks and rabbits. Fell like pure nature untouched by dirty civilization.  more »
  • A great way to spend the day. Walking, swimming and eating. Plenty of places to swim, but choose carefully. As a middle aged couple we decided against climbing across the rocks and went for a small...  more »

  • A small paradise island ! Lots of beautiful birds and rabbits! Game of thrones essence! Great small, bigger bays to swim! Best season on October!
  • Restful day at this island, just walking and swimming, sunbathing and watching peacocks and rabbits. Iron throne also there in monastery. Beautiful views, if weather is good, highly recommended.
  • Beautiful island! My family and I had a lovely and relaxing day there although we did not explore all of it. We visited the iron throne in the monastery. We swam in the dead Sea and relaxed in the park beside it. My children played in the playground and were so in love with the rabbits and peacocks.
  • Though the ferry journey here can be very hot and crowded, once you are at Lokrum, you can sense the peace. There is an abundance of gardens, forts, peacocks and rabbits to keep you occupied and of course, if you are a GoT fan, you must grab a photo with the iron throne.
  • Beautiful and calm place, totally different than other islands in Croatia. Make sure you explore the island. Do not stay on the beach and swim all day - use your time wisely, the island is gorgeous. There are many attractions to see. Some of them require a short or long hike. You can see fortress in ruins, botanical gardens, other ruins, monastery.... There are many parks with interesting tropical plants. There are peacocks and rabbits living freely in every corner of the island. It's a small tropic paradise, unusual for Croatia. Definitely recommend paying a visit.
