At the busy square of Luza is the Bell Tower although it is best to see it from the walls. If you agudizas the view you will see the statue of some children ringing the Bell.

The original municipal belfry (Bell Tower) is sufficiently high, the clock tower and Bell, not being the tallest building in the city, readily visible and recognizable from virtually anywhere in the fortress of Dubrovnik. Tower-Bell Tower (or rather its precursor) was erected in the year 1444 zamshelom (not the most eventful in the history of the Earth year, however, was marked by events such as camping Armagnacs, commanded by the Dauphin Louis Black, the defeat of the army of János Hunyadi, the Turkish army at the battle of Varna etc.). Direct the construction of the Bell Tower was carried out on the draft and led by local architects Grubachevicha, Utishevicha and Radonchicha (Grubacevic, Utišenovic and Radoncic). The architectural style of the buildings is a kind of a weird mixture of Renaissance and Gothic-perhaps it is for this reason that the Tower the appearance of a strikingly stands out from the other buildings of the old town. The height of the Bell Tower is a 31 metre. Watches, located on this tower were moved here from the Rector's Palace (Knežev dvor) in year erection. Copper dial was produced again by local artist Matko Junchichem. He also created two figures, called "Maro" and "Borough", which beat the Bell hammers. At first, these two figures were made of wood. Later wooden figures were replaced by bronze statues, which the locals lovingly call "zelenci". In the year 1509 Dubrovnik master Ivan Rabljanin produced a new Bell, which is used even today (it turns out that aborigines did not like the sound of bells!). For a long time the belfry regularly fulfilled its function, but its design is seriously affected by the earthquake of 1667 (njete even flashed infa, that Bell Tower began to resemble the leaning tower), in the early 20th century it was decided to demolish it. A huge Bell weighing 2 tons-that's the only thing left of the original buildings). In 1928 year Bell Tower was completely reconstructed in the old same project and at the same place.

It is to grow straight and enter the old town through pile gate Placa, straight high Bell Tower. Walking the walls from the street old town is particularly high, so also look good and stands out. Lit up at night, it is all the more beautiful.

Where to stay in Dubrovnik

One of Croatia's major tourist destinations, Dubrovnik remains one of the most expensive cities in the country, especially if you wish to stay in the old town at peak season. You can choose from upscale hotel rooms just east of the old town, but for budget-friendly beds you may have to go as far as the outskirts of town. Many locals rent small rooms in their private homes, so look for rental signs in windows or check with the city's tourist office.
