Sudak Fortress, Sudak

(4.7/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
Sitting on bare cliffs above the bay, Sudak Fortress served as an almost impregnable defense wall and citadel over the course of ten centuries. The complex stretches across 27.9 hectares (69 acres), featuring massive, well-preserved walls, towers, and buildings. Dating back to the 6th century, the fortress bears marks of the Byzantine and Genoese architectural styles. Take a walk along the two lines of defense and tour the remaining towers. You'll also see a temple that was transformed from a mosque to an Orthodox church, then to a Catholic cathedral, and finally to an archeological museum. Wear comfortable shoes. • Be sure to visit in the pike perch! The outside does not seem so spacious, until you get inside. Interested in finding out about the history of the attractions, but to be honest, I did not like. Suggest initially explore information and history on their own, and then visit the fortress itself. Great belvederes, Produces excellent pictures. On the territory of the fortress are some exhibitions (extra charge of course), you can make a photo with rjazhennymi. It's fun, especially for kids). In the summer I advise go either in the morning or in the evening. In the most sun exposure there hell. Don't forget to bring water!

  • Genoese fortress in Sudak is open daily from 9.00 till 21.00 summer until 18.00 in winter. The best time to visit is August when the annual Knight Festival "Genoa helmet" with colourful reconstruction of historical events and tournaments. Those wishing to attend should be in medieval costumes, campers without costumes guard on the territory of the fortress will not miss.

  • Went by car from ST. PETERSBURG. Have made visits to the Genoese fortress in mandatory. The territory is big, there is something to see. Recommend to wear comfortable shoes. It is better to take a guide. And by the way there is still a small museum, it somehow pass by, not noticing the way back. And Yes, the toilet is better to go in advance, before the fortress. Dinner (or lunch) easier.
