Genoese Fortress, Sudak

(4.7/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
Sitting on bare cliffs above the bay, Genoese Fortress served as an almost impregnable defense wall and citadel over the course of ten centuries. The complex stretches across 27.9 hectares (69 acres), featuring massive, well-preserved walls, towers, and buildings. Dating back to the 6th century, the fortress bears marks of the Byzantine and Genoese architectural styles. Take a walk along the two lines of defense and tour the remaining towers. You'll also see a temple that was transformed from a mosque to an Orthodox church, then to a Catholic cathedral, and finally to an archeological museum. Wear comfortable shoes. • Several recommendations on how to correctly use:) The main thing is not to attend morning and afternoon, better to go when the heat begins to subside. Count on three hours walking on the slopes and a little karabkanija on the ancient stairs, so be sure to sneakers, hat and a supply of water. Recommend going with a guided tour, our tour guide was vivid and neskuchen. Should go to the former mosque, Tower and Consul platform on a cliff next to it. Especially the arrogant climb to the top of the mountain and its ruins. Beautiful, interesting, good views, good way to warm up after the beach and barbecue.

  • More not even liked the fortress and city views that it opened. Very beautiful! In June 2013, it was very much mosquitoes, and I went to the fortress in the Sarafan. In the evening they zazhrali and even already was not to review.

  • Good afternoon! Genoese fortress is the business card of the pike perch, and so can be considered as. Architecture certainly captures the imagination! But me personally, the huge flow of information from the Guide (if not especially competent filing, for example with "uh", "MMM", etc.-drives in melancholy and longing)))) Is certainly something to look at, pofotkat'sja against the backdrop of a steep cliff and the sea, on the inner plateau, but! Visit the fortress of ranenko in the morning or late afternoon, when the heat has subsided, otherwise really can feel the touch of the Sun!)
