Genoese Fortress, Sudak

Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web
Sitting on bare cliffs above the bay, Genoese Fortress served as an almost impregnable defense wall and citadel over the course of ten centuries. The complex stretches across 27.9 hectares (69 acres), featuring massive, well-preserved walls, towers, and buildings. Dating back to the 6th century, the fortress bears marks of the Byzantine and Genoese architectural styles. Take a walk along the two lines of defense and tour the remaining towers. You'll also see a temple that was transformed from a mosque to an Orthodox church, then to a Catholic cathedral, and finally to an archeological museum. Wear comfortable shoes. • Every time every year in the Crimea, tried to visit the fortress. Despite the fact that it is a historical object, and there does not change anything like the fortress walls breathing history on its territory hosts various events allow you to touch the history and culture of Russia. I advise all.

  • The place to visit! Even if you have absolutely no interest in ancient fortresses and ancient walls. For the sake of the species alone is worth going there to climb!
