Commemorating 50 years from the First Defense of Sevastopol, rises 16.7 m (54.7 ft) out of the sea. As a part of the memorial complex that was created in 1905, this large Corinthian column with an eagle on the top reminds visitors of the sacrifice made in a battle against the Allied navy. Aware that the enemy had a much stronger army, the Russian military council created a barrier using all its ships, and the entire defense force united at land.   • At the monument there are plenty of benches where you can sit and relax while looking at the sea! Also feed the pigeons, which ask for a meal!

  • The monument is located in Central City Bay not far from the place where in the fall of 1854, were flooded with 7 warships of the Russian Navy to prevent the enemy. In early September, 1854 siege of Sevastopol Anglo-French fleet. Ships, which were part of the hostile fleet, were much more modern and technically perfect our courts, and therefore command the city represented by Prince Menshikov had decided not to join battle with the enemy.
