Karadag Natural Reserve, Koktebel
(4.9/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
Karadag Natural Reserve combines sea, subtropical forests, and a plethora of animal species. Sitting on an ancient volcano, the reserve stretches across 2,874 hectares (7,102 acres). Once submerged under water, today the site conceals precious stones and serves as home to about 1,176 plant species and 5,500 types of animals. Paths cut through otherworldly geological formations shaped by wind, water, and sun over millions of years. Find the hidden grottos and climb to overlooks facing the bays. You can take a guided tour of the site, either by land or sea, and visit the nature museum and a dolphinarium. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Koktebel holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Karadag Natural Reserve and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The reserve is a beautiful, interesting route. We went in January, when it was all in the snow, I must say, the route is very dangerous and requires special clothing, footwear, and willpower. In total we passed 10 km, but snow-covered trail is very unpredictable. Seen ROE and climbed above the clouds, at the end of the route were the long-awaited Golden Gate. Better, of course, go there in good weather.
