  • I can only say that it is a bit of a misrepresentation to promote this as "The Museum of Gold". Rather, seemed to us to be mostly a superbly laid-out and executed museum about pre-columbian...  more »

  • This was a beautiful museum!! So interesting, lots of context, and great exhibits. There was a nice modern art exhibit in the temporary space as well. We loved the video showing how modern Costa Rican people are keeping their tribes alive. We also loved the small exhibition on coins on the first floor! Very enjoyable!
  • I'm not really a museum kind of guy, but I enjoyed this one. Good commentary signs in both Spanish and English. Not a large museum, but you can still spend some time here. Fun fact, the only underground building in San José. This museum can be bought as a three museum package.
  • Loved this museum. Provides some great context for first time Costa Rico visitors. Specifically enjoyed learning about the indigenous clans’ world views. I hope they continue to expand the museum because they are doing a great job.
  • Underground Vault museum in the middle of el mercado central. Very beautiful gold pieces and lots of history of the original tribes and what they went through being conquered by Europeans. Understanding this history is vital whether you have European descent or native blood. There’s a student discount as well, the museum see a to be continuously expanding and opening new exhibits. Stay and watch the documentary at the end
  • This museum has a beautiful collection of pie Columbian Gold pieces and just as interesting, many many antique coins dating as far back as they go. All of it is displayed with historical background. That said if you go to any of the other museums you will see many of the same gold pieces and history.
