Parque La Sabana, San Jose
(3.7/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Explore the area that Costa Ricans call 'the lungs of San Jose' during a visit to Parque La Sabana, a large metropolitan park. The 72 ha (177 acre) park is known as the home of the country's national soccer stadium, as well as many other sports facilities, including running and skating tracks, and soccer fields. Formerly the site of the country's main airport, the terminal building still stands, although it has now been converted into the national art gallery. Take a stroll around the artificial lake and through the wooded areas, spotting native plant life and birds. Our San Jose trip itinerary builder makes visiting Parque La Sabana and other San Jose attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Nice big and the amount of things for everyone that has this park. I think that it is perfect for having a good time outdoors or practicing some sport.

  • I stayed at a hotel adjacent to the park because of the park. I wanted a place where I could go for a walk or a run. The park is large and has a nice lake with paddle boats, some pathways and a huge n...  more »
  • The first international airport of Costa Rica was located in this park. The old building of the airport is Spanish colonial style and today houses the Museum of Costa Rican art. La Sabana Park is an icon of San Jose. To visit it I recommend taking the train to Pavas at the station to the Atlantic or the Pacific (opening hours from Monday to Saturday) and thus enjoy a different walk along different parts of the province in old transport which also has its history, preferably located in the old cars that have windows that open. Get off at the General Comptroller of the Republic, a building with a particular architecture. Crossing the pedestrian bridge you reach Park La Sabana, unmissable visit the national stadium of Costa Rica, where it is allowed to set a low-cost guided. You can also visit the Museum of Costa Rican art for those who like art, in addition, the pool Maria of the miracle Paris, the national skating rink, lakes and the national gymnasium. This Park has with fields for the practice of different sports in an environment natural and different facilities as health, bedside tables, trails and great quantity of trees. Also, you can appreciate the building of the Institute Costa Rican of electricity. In its surroundings there are bookstores, restaurants and public transport, among other services. The photographs near the Lake are great.
