Parque La Sabana, San Jose

4.0
#1 of 13 in Parks in San Jose
Explore the area that Costa Ricans call 'the lungs of San Jose' during a visit to Parque La Sabana, a large metropolitan park. The 72 ha (177 acre) park is known as the home of the country's national soccer stadium, as well as many other sports facilities, including running and skating tracks, and soccer fields. Formerly the site of the country's main airport, the terminal building still stands, although it has now been converted into the national art gallery. Take a stroll around the artificial lake and through the wooded areas, spotting native plant life and birds. Make your San Jose itinerary with Inspirock to find out what to see and where to go.

  • The park has great wooden carvings of indigenous birds & first thing in the morning before roadside traffic gets too crazy is probably the best time to go, because it does feel like an oasis of calm  more »

  • I'm from United States so coming to Costa Rica for the first time I had no idea what to expect. So far everyone has been so helpful and friendly. Lightning and thunder at noon. The weather is a perfect 78°. Balmy. I'm loving this so far.
  • Soccer fields, baseball fields, paths to walk on, a lake, soccer stadium. There is plenty to keep you busy here! There are also options for skaters or people who like to play basketball. There is also a soccer stadium (teams belonging to the local league and the national team play there every now and then). It is located on the west part of San José. If you catch a bus from downtown (line Sabana Estadio) it won't take you long to get here.
  • Good place to come for a walk or run. However the condition of the park is not that great, it definitely requires more investments and work!
  • Awsome place to exercise and hangout lot of happy people working out and playing different sports. It is mostly crowded from morning to evening. Haven't ever been here at night's.
