  • Our favorite part was the butterfly garden. Most amazing blue butterflies we have ever seen!!! The rest of the museum was ok. Many exhibitions being repaired and not much to see.  more »
  • Organized into about 4 big rooms (or 4 "general sections" of the museum's interior) is the "comprehensive timeline" of Costa Rica from the pre-Columbian period to the colonial period to the...  more »
  • A bit of a faff to get your tickets. The building is beautiful and the displays are lovingly shown. The information is concise and meaningful, but it's all a bit boring and repetitive.  more »
  • This was the most affordable of the 3 main museums which also includes the Jade and Gold museums. It is well laid out in that if you go to the right you naturally progress from the early history to the latest history. The history of the jail is in a separate basement level and a children's ecology exhibit is in its own building as well. I enjoy learning and spent about 2 1/2 hours here reading most exhibits. About the right size with crowds to not feel crowded but not empty either.
  • Loved this museum! Great timeline of information and artifacts from pre-colonial to present day. Almost all information is in both Spanish and English. Highly recommend for tourists or anyone. And there is a student deal, even if you鈥檙e from out of the country! Nice views from the museum too.
  • It's a nice museum. It walks you through the history of Costa Rica from thousands of years BCE to modern time. It took about 90 minutes to walk through, and I read just about every plaque. Most of the plaques are in both English and Spanish. When you walk in, go to your right if you want to learn about the history in chronological order.
  • This place is SO interesting and varied. The displays and progression 'through the ages' of the development of Coata Rica are well thought out with English as well as Spanish explanations. And the building itself and grounds are an adventure too, going from Army Barracks to Museum 馃槉
  • It is amazing, if you really pay attention and read what is on the cards you'll discover the great history. Once you're in you'll see a beautiful garden and then an amazing view, the museum has a lot of history and the room that will be on your right when you get in will be for special collections.
