We visit this museum every time we are in San Jose. The taxidermy is not not good but my children love this museum. My kids are now 15 & 12 We have been visiting for many years sometimes making 2... more »

this is a great place to bring kids and see a lot. If you donñt speak spanish, it might be a little tougher as they don´t haven a lot of their display in other languages, but if you just want to... more »

Not sure where they got the animal exhibits from- the rejects from people practicing taxidermy perhaps. The animals in the main looked like they had all had really bad plastic surgery. The kangaroo..... more »

Worth a visit if you enjoy natural history museums. Very little info or signage in English, so beware, but lots to look at. There is a fascinating variety of animals that range from amazing to shockingly awkward. And an amazing large collection of butterflies! On top of that it's cheap. Only 2000 colones!

Nice Museum with focus on exhibits of the current age of Evolution. I guess it tooks us 1.5 hrs to go through. The entrance fee is 1500 colognes for kids & 2000 colognes for adults. The museum may not be a Highlight of the worlds most important Natural Sience institutions but was absolutely worth the price. The Focus is on exhebits of four categories - Birds, Reptiles, Insects and Mammals. Its a good activity for a rainy day in San Josè Center!

A GREAT, small, no frills museum that has EVERYTHING ... from shells & fossils to dinosaurs ... from the nicest & most beautiful butterfly collection to alligators & crocs ... AND ... EVERYTHING ELSE from aardvarks ... to even a whale! While a few of the taxidermied exhibits are showing a little age ... The sheer magnitude of this collection in the relatively small footprint is mind boggling! It was well thought out & executed appropriately. The museum self tour price is ridiculously low! And while the staff was not bilingual, they were EXTREMELY conscientious & invaluable in helping with an after hours transportation dilemma ... even refusing to leave until their guests were on their way! Well done! ... Our hats are off to you ... with our thanks!

The best museum in San Jose. Base on the amount of different species. This museum in a modern building will be a hit. You must visit it.

I loved it! Fantastic full size dinosaur bones and skeletons, of current animals too, and so many insects, animals, fish and reptiles. Very fascinating to see everything. Unfortunately they must not have the funding to update anything, the diaramas of taxidermied animals were scarily horrific, with melting, awkward faces and bodies, and missing fur. I couldn't look! But they originally did a creative job and must have at one time looked amazing.
