Religious Site Tourist Spot
Marvel at Metropolitan Church (Catedral Metropolitana), an elaborately designed historical church, sitting in the heart of San Jose and east of Parque Central. It was built in 1871 after the pre-existing church was destroyed in an earthquake. The façade features a grand renaissance style towering over the park plaza with tall columns. The inside exhibits a neoclassical interior with colorful Spanish-tile floors, stained-glass windows, and at the main altar stands 17th century Guatemalan statues of cherubs and of Christ. After exploring the church have a stroll or a picnic in the park opposite. To visit Metropolitan Church (Catedral Metropolitana) on your trip to San Jose, use our San Jose itinerary maker.

  • It is not very old but if you have a taste for space and colour that surprises. It is terribly bright. It is a church with typically Spanish plant with its surrounding chapels dedicated to the same typical images walking by Easter. It is quite large and I like for things to look for when going to a cathedral and things that surprise you when you see them there

  • The Cathedral of San José is located in the Centre of the Capital, in front of Central Park. It is a beautiful place of prayer and respect, is a work of art by its ancient architecture. The Holy Sepulchre which is used in the good Friday procession is all one block (block), with many images and saints and is permanently.

  • Beautiful cathedral and open to the public! Lots of history here.
  • I was amazed with the beauty of this church. A outside is rather simple; but when you enter it's full of details. The Church was founded in 1846 by the Spaniards and was rebuilt due to an earthquake in 1990. It has stained-glass windows that details the passion of Christ, a pulpit in where in earlier times, the father gave the mass. The sky of this church is impressive! AWE...

  • A place with a simple appearance breastplate which shows its aesthetic elegance worthy of a central Cathedral is very different from that commonly it relate to a cathedral but that gives interest to the traveler. A point where being a faithful community.
