Landmark Nature / Park
Visit Central Park (Parque Central), a popular meeting place among locals located in the center of San Jose. The park features a gazebo, supported by four legs and sitting atop a platform, and famously donated by former Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza. The surrounding area consists of a few trees that provide shade, with the national flag of Costa Rica flying proudly in the park. After taking some photos, continue from the plaza and visit the nearby national cathedral. • We stopped on a week-end. Local bands took turn playing music: from opera, choir to rock, salsa. Fun places and meeting points of the locals after church.  more »
  • This is a nice green space in the midst of the city, places to stop & rest, good for people watching & some birds, too.  more »
  • On my visit I found the park to be a bit grotty and run down, Certainly not a place I would advise any tourist to be after dark. It is leafy and shaded but not exactly welcoming. I passed through it o...  more »

  • It's honestly a very beautiful area with lots to look at but like others have commented make sure to have all your stuff close by. It does get crowded here and pickpockets make sure to take advantage of that. There's police walking around but they don't do much.
  • Nothing really to rate here. It's a park that is very crowded. It is surrounded by fast food such as KFC Carl's Jr and Papa Johns. It's really just a connection between 4th and 2nd ave
  • Pretty typical Costa Rican Park but once in awhile during the holidays they have little tents full of handicrafts. You do have to watch out for pickpockets and thieves but just use ordinary caution. It's not a place that I would want to be at night.
  • There is only one way to describe Central Park. Busy... lots of little shops and vendors around.
  • Dangerous for Americans. Watch your back.. pick pockets and scammers everywhere. Ugly and run down, smells like weed. but awesome cathedral
