Visit Central Park (Parque Central), a popular meeting place among locals located in the center of San Jose. The park features a gazebo, supported by four legs and sitting atop a platform, and famously donated by former Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza. The surrounding area consists of a few trees that provide shade, with the national flag of Costa Rica flying proudly in the park. After taking some photos, continue from the plaza and visit the nearby national cathedral. • nothing special, a park rather unkempt and dirty, even dangerous for people who move at night.

  • In the Park it passes within an unimaginable number of walkers who pass daily and share throughout the day and night. It's very folkloric and singular.

  • Pity, because being a Central country park, one would expect that cultural attractions had, but if we take a couple of Street jugglers, there is nothing more that come to this park, rather is a dangerous thing to be long there, since many of those who are in this park are offenders unemployed waiting for a victim much care to be here.

  • It's honestly a very beautiful area with lots to look at but like others have commented make sure to have all your stuff close by. It does get crowded here and pickpockets make sure to take advantage of that. There's police walking around but they don't do much.
  • Pretty typical Costa Rican Park but once in awhile during the holidays they have little tents full of handicrafts. You do have to watch out for pickpockets and thieves but just use ordinary caution. It's not a place that I would want to be at night.
  • Dangerous for Americans. Watch your back.. pick pockets and scammers everywhere. Ugly and run down, smells like weed. but awesome cathedral
  • Beautiful landmark which still withholds some of former San José's charm
  • Watch for the young ticos selling lollipops. Hint: They are not really selling lollipops.
