  • On the Chirripó, I am risen in 1984 and 1989, and recently again. There was only a pretty run-down hut at 3400 m ü.M, today the comparatively very noble Albergue stands there base Crestones, offering all the amenities. It's hard to say what I like better. At that time, the entire action for me as an adventurer in the circumstances (bad way, poor accommodation) was exciting and so that today a great experience, I can get quite something comfort as 71 - somehow I am undecided but because today too much in the national park there is me (I was the eleventh visitors in September of 1984, according to the Summit book only - today it's totally different dimensions). No matter! The way up, the vegetation on the road through the translucent rain forest and the Chusquea bamboo stocks above the edge of the forest remain impressive, and the views of the lakes from the top is gigantic. It's Cirque Lakes, which bear witness to the glacial shaping of high positions during the ice ages. Yes, it was nice - but then somehow exciting, since not more as "unique" and not so sparkling again.

  • The Chirripo is a precious and unique Park of Costa Rica. If amore mountain, this is your place. It is hard and tiring to get, but it is worth everything. Its landscapes, its mountains, its lakes, everything is beautiful and mystical in this place. It's always good to come back and be surprised sorprenderi by the Majesty of the place

  • The site is emblematic, but almost just that. If it weren't because it is the highest mountain in Costa Rica, it would not be almost nothing. 80% of visitors are mountaineers, which makes the atmosphere very peculiar. The incentive is to make the picture next to the poster of the top, and there is much suffering (and risk) before that.

  • A fantastic experience to climb up Mount Chirripo, or even make it up to the first shelter (~4km, offers snacks). You need to reserve space online weeks in advance and check in with the ranger station before. Absolutely worth the bureaucratic hassle to climb up to the peak (see James Kaiser's website), but do not try without booking the base camp. It took us 8 hours to get to the base camp and 12 the next day to get to the peak and all the way back down. Also make sure you have a warm down sleeping bag. In base camp, indoor temperatures drop close to freezing point at night.
  • Beautiful mountain! Unbelievable sights, blue sky and sunny early February days, and cold evenings! You got to go there, it totally worth the ticket!
  • Beautiful mountain. Great for trekking. Very well marked path
  • The national park itself is very simple. A shelter some warm food and tons of green areas. I think it is a good experience for hikers who enjoys a simple journey. there are some commodities such a hot meals, hot drinks, luggage transportation. At this time the shelter does not provide hot water for the shower, but IMHO it's part of the journey. Even though it can be done in one or two days I'd recommend to go for 3 days at least a less exhausting trip.
  • Chirripó National Park changed me. Just wait until you see the natural beauty of this place! The amazing changes in the vegetation around you as you climb the 14km (8.6 miles) to reach the basecamp. From there it's approx 5km (3 miles) to the summit. You can send your bags up with the mules in the early morning, or you can carry your own weight. You need to make a reservation beforehand so make sure to do so with anticipation! In addition to this you must register with Chirripó National Park administration to pay a park entrance fee. Starting at starting at San Jerónimo de Perez Zeledón at an altitude of 1502 mts (5200 feet above sea level) you will climb all the way up to the summit at 3820 mts (12532) along lush tropical jungle, cloudy oak forests, high elevation bamboo forests, and finally alpine tundra and sabanas. The basecamp has great installations, nice warm beds, pillos and an individual sleeping bag for everyone. The best cold showers! Food is expensive and they don't allow any cooking done on your own accountso you either have to take your own food that won't spoil or pay the appox $12 for each meal. Either way it's worth it! The scenery is awe inspiring; go through the Sabana de los Leones (Lion's sabana), climb Chirripó were hopefully you'll get to see both oceans (best time to visit is January-May) although you might just get lucky any day of the year. Just as amazing and special in their own accord are Cerro Ventisqueros, Cerro Terbi, and the Crestones (huge vertical rock formations). Have a great time!
