Chirripo National Park, Province of San Jose

4.2
#7 of 21 in Parks in Province of San Jose
Magical and wild, Chirripo National Park contains the tallest mountain in Costa Rica, which rises to a height of 3,820 m (12,530 ft). Five ecosystems flourish here and offer visitors a look at stunning changes of vegetation--from wet tropical forest to subalpine wet forest. While climbing, you can appreciate sweeping vistas stretching as far as the eye can see. Wear clothing appropriate for cold weather, shoes suitable for rugged terrain, and keep in mind that you'll need good hiking equipment and advanced skills to safely scale the park's soaring peak. Planning San Gerardo De Rivas trip won't be overwheling when you use's Insprock itinerary maker.

  • Disposal and preparation must be, it was my third time, it is not a ride, it is hard. To avoid headaches and gastritis best coordinate with muuuuucha advance with authorized agencies or hotels in the area. For the ticos "a foot" wear little clothing, hauling in the carriers is expensive, you charged as 2200 per kilogram up, and must return to pay down again. When I went, third week of January, the paths of the km 0 to 7 were very muddy, very hard. Best summer and read or find out what more it is possible with opinions of previous travelers.

  • For my third time I climbed the Chirripo and the experience was amazing as I remember the two times before...The complete experience is done when climbing to see the dawn in Chirripo, but also climb c...  more »
  • The chirripo national Redos is one of the parks most beautiful of Costa Rica, arriving there is a crossing, as is well away from the city. It is the source of attraction of a small community, San Gerardo de Rivas. It is important to get reservations earlier as the hostel has a maximum of 40 spaces per night. You must present yourself a day before to notify that you'll be up the next day. My recommendation is to leave at 4 in the morning so that the Sun does not make hard ascent. All the way is surrounded by a beautiful and silent, forest on the road there is water and the kilometer 7 you can supply of food and drinks. The last kilometers are made long but are best. Recommend climb and stay two nights to replace the ascent and also enjoy the place, he has with most attractions being the Chirripo the main however, Ventirqueros, cerro Terbi, los Crestones, La Sabana de los Leones and others are just as beautiful. The paramo is beautiful. As for the refuge. It is a safe and orderly place, the food is excellent and good quantity. If it rises between 9 am to 11 am you can see the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific. The chirripo is a place that takes you in the heart. Forever.
