  • Safari Surf School made my vacation to Nosara. I came to town on a whim to learn how to surf but with no plans. I ended up taking daily private lessons with Pio and made a ton of progress over the week. He had a ton of experience teaching and it made a huge difference. He was able to coach me to quick improvement. As an aside - I ended up being pushed into lessons by the hotel I stayed at during check-in and felt like the first two days of my trip were a bit disappointing because of this. It was clear the instructor didn't have much experience at all teaching, it clearly showed, and was really frustrating. It wasn't even much less expensive. Don't waste your precious time - go with the pros!
  • I just spent a wonderful week with the folks at Safari Surf School in Nosara, Costa Rica. From making arrangements to my actual time there, everything was perfect. The staff will make you feel like family and welcome you with open arms. Tim (the owner) is based in the US but don’t worry, you’re in more than capable hands. There’s a good reason these folks have been around since the late 90s. You’re going to have a blast!
  • The Safari Surf School program is a great place to surf! Whether a beginner or experienced rider, the location in Nosara, Costa Rica offers waves for all skill levels. During my week in Nosara, I received excellent instruction from Safari’s ISA certified staff. All my instructors put in solid effort and facilitated learning during my time there. The Safari staff was also readily able to explain technical aspects of surfing, including board preference, timing, reading the water, how to catch waves on long versus smaller boards, and paddling through the rough to the outside line-up to confidently catch unbroken waves. The accommodations at Olas Verdes Hotel were great, and the staff welcoming and friendly, making my time there enjoyable from the moment I stepped onto the grounds. I encourage anyone who is on the fence about this program to visit and experience it for yourself. You will not be disappointed!
  • Amazing instructors who make sure you have the right technique so you stay safe and prevent injury. All instructors are local, and a part of the community, so they know the water and the beaches better than some of the other schools in the area. They also offer a women's bootcamp with yoga and massage.
  • Enjoyed my private lesson with Safari Surf School. I only had one lesson and I was able to get up and ride some white waters during my trip to Nosara. The school is conveniently located on the property of the hotel we were staying at and made it easy for my boyfriend to rent surfboards from them. All the instructors are ISA certified, which made me feel extra comfortable and know that I was in good hands. I deducted a star from the rating solely on the condition some of the boards were in. I don't know much about surf boards, but my boyfriend had a hard time with a few of the boards that he was renting during our stay. A good amount of the boards were in "okay" condition with others having dings to the board, which I guess can affect how they ride.
