#11 of 19 in Parks in Monteverde
The theme at Monteverde Theme Park consists of frogs, and lots of them! Amongst the leafy undergrowth find 28 species of frog and toad, from brightly colored poison dart frogs to the famous red eyed tree frog. The butterfly and insect houses also contain an impressive collection of rare indigenous creepy crawlies. To make the most of the collection, have one of the knowledgeable guides take you around the park, and on the same ticket, come back for the night tour to catch a glimpse of the nocturnal species living here. • We made with the last tour of the day for the frogs. We were only three and therefore had plenty of time to take pictures. The very nice guide could tell us much to the frogs and shone us the frogs also ideal for photographing. Flash photography is not only prohibited, but also nonsensical (reflecting glass).

  • We went there and decided to see the insect collections and see all the frogs and toads. The butterfly collection was great, as well as the beetles and scorpions. The live tarantula was great to watch...  more »
  • While we were hesitant to include this "Park" in our stay as we prefer to see animals in their natural environment, we really enjoyed and we welcomed have observed frogs and have precise details on their mode of life with the guide. You should know that even with a night tour, it is not easy to observe the famous tree frogs with red eyes because they are nocturnal and arboreal and depending on the weather, they can be located very high in the trees... So, Yes, we see them in the wild but it is frustrating especially for children. In the windows, it's easier and are very beautiful reconstituted circles (we pass already five minutes each time to find!) We have also seen frogs of glass children dreaming to observe as well as a Tarantula on display... brrrrr. The ranarium offers for the price of a ticket a day tour and a night tour. And the price is not prohibitive. There are also many Costa Ricans tourists and this allows to talk with them about their wildlife (they were not aware that we, french, eat frogs! It was the opportunity to laugh together) in short, do not hesitate and include these 2 visits to your stay at Monteverde.

Where to stay in Monteverde

Monteverde makes the most of its scenic natural surroundings, with an extensive choice of eco-accommodations offering an immersive natural experience. Most guests choose to stay outside of the town center to enjoy the rainforest surroundings in an eco-lodge or a family-owned ranch. Southeast, along the road to Monteverde Reserve, and north, near Don Juan Towns, you'll find some of the most popular areas to stay. If you do stay within the town center, you'll still enjoy easy access to the area's gardens and animal reserves.
