  • The Children's Eternal Rainforest has two field stations and one separate reserve that is right on the main road in Monteverde, very near the Cheese Factory, called Bajo de Tigre. Bajo is the easiest to reach but the field stations are more of a challenge. San Gerardo field station requires walking 5 km carrying your stuff (backpack!). Pocosol can be reached in a 4 wheel drive vehicle in 40 minutes or so. Both are remote and boast staggering levels of biodiversity. Lodging is clean and comfy, meals delicious. Trails are well maintained and provide access to the surroundings of each station. Hot water and power are found at both stations. Reservations can be made through Monteverde Conservation League. Great destination for the ecotourist, birder, naturalist.
  • A huge private reserve which is easy enough to walk to from Monte Verde. There's a small fee to enter before hitting the trails, where you can pickup a laminated map and get some helpful advice from the staff there. We only encountered one other pair of hikers for three hours walking, which was excellent! We saw loads of wildlife including two rat snakes mating. The viewing platform at the furthest reaches of the trails was fantastic. Take some water and do the full circular route. Highly recommended trails.
  • I only give 4 stars because we were chased by a few monkeys! They could have felt threatened by our presence, protecting a young one or engaging in mating practices...either way it was pretty scary. The property itself is absolutely amazing!
  • Come enjoy nature
  • Great forest. Great story of private protection.
