Tio Leo Coffee Tour Reviews
We have been on many guided tours across the world and by far Tio Leo’s was one of the best. Imagine if your uncle owned a coffee, eco-farm and invited you over on Saturday for a visit. That’s... more »
Luckily, we were able to get in on the tour after a couple cancelled. You will find learning about coffee and how these folks are growing it at sea level to be fascinating and enjoyable! Tio Leo is... more »
We had a very interesting tour at Tio Leo! We first had a tour of the farm, then met Tio Leo and listened to him go through a coffee cupping experience. Very informative and highly recommend everyone.... more »
Great place to buy reasonably priced locally sourced coffee. Also has gift shop iced coffee, smoothies and a restaurant. Tio Leo will even hand sign each bag of coffee you buy. Very cool little stop on the way to your hotel and well worth a visit. They also offer a coffee plantation tour for 25 dollars. Tour is about 2 hours long.
Make sure and call ahead for the tour. It is not run every day of week. We just walked in at 9am on a Monday and they said the next tour would be on Thursday. We got a really cool mini tour from Sara (Zara?), though. She spoke to the local health care, history of region, regional differences across CR, coffee roasting, etc. Loved our brief time at Tio Leo's!
We recently took a vacation to Costa Rica and Tio Leo's is a must see! He personally gives tours of his awesome plantation and gives you an in depth overview of how he cultivates the coffee beans and all the other plants that make it happen. From their you taste different qualities of coffees, learn to cook your own delicious empanadas, then finish off by press your own sugar cane juice! If I could give more stars I would - lovely family owned business and kind staff that truly love their work.
This is a must do if you're in the Guanacaste area. Leo is one of those rare people who is himself and surrounds himself with those who are truly passionate about their trade. He has a small operation that exemplifies the art of blending raw grit with smarts and innovation to come up with a way where others would simply be inclined to move on. His knowledge of not only coffee but regional horticulture has allowed him to make a go of coffee and cocoa growing in a part of Costa Rica where it's generally considered to be impossible. He shares his knowledge with a heart of gold and instills the same in his staff. His easy demeanor a truly joyous spirit is infectious. The small fee charged for the hours long tour (which involves much more than simply walking around his farm) will be money and time well spent. Seeing what goes into something as simple as a cup of coffee is really inspiring and Leo is a man who loves his craft.
Highly recommend this tour. Very knowledgeable friendly staff. The tour includes more than just coffee, such as sugar cane, fruit trees, rum, and more.
