Get up close and personal with some of Costa Rica's most exotic mammals, reptiles, and insects with a visit to Neo Fauna. This wildlife conservation area is tucked away in the wilderness and dedicated to the preservation and reproduction of endangered species. The farm pays particular attention to butterflies, poisonous dart frogs, and snakes. The center also works as a safe refuge for wounded and sick wild animals to heal and be safely released into the wild. • We first visited the sanctuary where we saw amazing birds, monkeys, amphibians and frogs! These people definitely care for those in care and it is obvious. Many of those cared for at the sanctuary wou...  more »
  • This place is definitely off the beaten path. So much so that we were a little concerned as we drove for what seemed like quite a distance in a very rural area. When we arrived we were greeted with a ...  more »
  • This is a small place where you try to create a new life for wild animals, on nature's terms. Animals which are brought into either because they are confiscated by the authorities, or traffic injured animals, which have a chance to survive. It is not a Zoo but a place in nature, and it looks like nature. The guide we had was very knowledgeable and narrative, and we were allowed to see and touch most of the animals. There are crocodiles, turtles, monkeys, butterflies, snakes and birds, and you can get really close to it all. The place is definitely worth a visit.

  • We loved our tour at Neo Fauna and learning about all the incredible work they have been doing there to not only help injured animals but to also help increase the populations of endangered and at risk frogs! I would highly recommend this tour and can't wait to go back.
  • People were so nice. Learned a great deal
  • They are passionate, care about curing, breeding and bringing back into the wild. Top
  • This place is a small zoo where they breed endangered animals to release into the wild. They have frogs, snakes, turtles, parrots, macaws, and butterflies. The guide was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about the animals and the breeding programs. He will show you every animal individually and answer every question with great enthusiasm and patience. The only reason that I didn't give this more stars is that the admission of US$25 per person (for a 75-minute tour) seems high compared to comparable tours in Costa Rica.
  • All animals in cages, butterfly cage is nice but most experience is "sad", snakes are very aggressive but in cages, could be scary for younger kids..
