#3 of 14 in Zoos & Aquariums in Costa Rica
Discover diverse Costa Rican ecosystems at Arenal Eco Zoo, which boasts one of the best collections of reptiles and amphibians on the island. Hold a python, let a butterfly land on your hand, and admire gigantic spiders and colorful frogs. Kind and extremely knowledgeable staff can guide you through the entire zoo and answer all your questions. Check out the native red-eyed tree frogs, which usually come out at night. Additional activities include day and night tours, ATV tours, horseback riding, and more. Grab some refreshments at the onsite restaurant, serving appetizing and fresh local foods. • This place is a must-visit for anybody who is interested in the wildlife (especially the snakes) of Costa Rica. Victor and his family are warm and hospitable hosts. Victor and Carlos are very knowledgeable and will teach you a ton! The Ecozoo holds a ton of snake specimens, as well as other reptiles, many amphibians, and birds! Absolutely get the tour of their zoo. However, I recommend a night tour for people who want to see these creatures in the wild. Both Victor and Carlos have eagle eyes. They can spot animals that you would have walked on by without even noticing. Be prepared for a fairly long (2-3 hours) hike, but you won't regret it! If you're hungry, the family also keeps a restaurant on the premises. Get yourself some homemade Costa Rican typical food, dine on the patio abuzz with thirsty hummingbirds, and enjoy the breathtaking view of Arenal volcano!
  • Go here if you want a great experience with attentive and well-informed naturalists who are passionate about snakes, turtles, amphibians, insects, and the future of all living things. It is well worth the entrance fee.
  • Is simply an amazing place to stay for a long time!!! Gardens, wildlife and good service for everyone.
  • This place was amazing! We stumbled upon this place and I was weary at first because I am not a fan of snakes but I held 3 different types of snakes. The tour guide was clearly passionate about all of the animals and made me feel extremely comfortable! I would highly recommend this place to everyone!
  • Two hours of guided tour, very interesting.
