Cataratas Llanos de Cortes, Bagaces

#1 of 6 in Things to do in Bagaces
Revel in a hidden gem at Cataratas Llanos de Cortes--a rushing cascade measuring 12m (35 ft) high and 15m (50 ft) wide. Park in the lot nearby and hike along the short dirt path to the fall. The area generally remains uncrowded, making it a perfect escape from tourists. Picnic by the waterfall, swim, sunbathe, or venture behind the curtain of water to escape the dry Guanacaste heat. • Stopped here at the end of our tour during the dry season. The falls are nice for a photo op but we didn't actually feel the need to swim since the water is more muddy than clear (maybe just tired...  more »
  • We visited here twice! 7$ per adult and our children, all under the age of 8, were free. A very short walk, 100m, from the parking to the falls. The falls are BEAUTIFUL and the water feels magical...  more »
  • We had a guide take us up the back of the waterfall. We stood on top and watched the water pour over! There was also a second waterfall that we could jump into. Our guide led us down the mountain to.....  more »

  • We went to the local side and paid a "donation" instead of the government side. It's $7 for the main entrance and pay what ever you want for the other side. We asked the guys at the turn off what's recommended and they said, pay $4 a person. So we did. At the parking lot they wanted to give us tour guide, we said we would be fine. It's a 5 min walk and see no reason to have to follow someone who probably expects a tip
  • We really enjoyed our morning at the waterfall. There are two places to park to get access to the waterfall. One we were told charges you $7 to access it which is the first entrance you signposted to it and the other which is by donation to the local community which is how we accessed it. For this entrance you had to drive on further once you left the highway until you cross a river and enter a village. You turn right just before the soccer field and follow the signs to the waterfall. From the car park it is a trail(shoes rather than flip flops recommended) to two waterfalls. One small one where you can jump in to a pool from and the main waterfall which was beautiful. It was fairly busy when we visited just after Christmas but not overcrowded. You can't swim right up to the fall as it is cordoned off.
  • Definitely pay the 7$ entry fee - cheaper with student ID - as its faster, easier on your car, and has security in the parking lot (not necessary but nice). Easy walk down - very impressive to see, we didn’t swim as there were a lot of families and wasn’t sure about the water cleanliness.
  • This place is very nice. It's a waterfall in the middle of nowhere with a pond beside it. Very nice to take a swim in
  • Beautiful waterfall with a very large shallow pool to wade in. Surrounded by green forrest. Beautiful.
