Cerro Chato (Chato Volcano), Arenal Volcano National Park

Categories: Volcanos, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 440+ reviews on the web
Climb Cerro Chato (Chato Volcano), an inactive volcano covered in lush greenery. Believed to have erupted for the first time 38,000 years ago, the volcano last saw activity approximately 3,500 years ago--making it an entirely different proposition to its noisy neighbor, Arenal. Take one of the two routes to reach the top and see the lagoon of green water in its crater. Most regard the hikes as relatively tough for beginners, and the paths can become particularly muddy and dangerous when it rains. • We did the hike from La Fortuna side. Get the tickets at the Green Lagoon and off you go. A guide is really not needed and overpriced. After 300m the trail starts going upwards ... and doesn't stop un...  read more »

  • It is a very nice site, but if not this clear loses much since there are no views on the road or the Lake Arenal and the Arenal and at the Lake is not nothing... To us that happened to us on the rise but the little d reach the Lake opened everything and spectacular. There are three rises. From La Fortuna waterfall, from the lodge obserbatory (from here you can see a waterfall and I think it is the most easy) and another from before the Observatory. We went by here ($10). We came from here and the "road" is horrible... without all-terrain dwell... Us cost 6 hours up and down walking very quiet. Although the Summit has only 1100 meters and exit East to about 550 eventually becomes quite drop because there is strong climbing casualties, but they are really hard the last 1500 meters. There is no technical difficulty apart from the mud. The road is very easy to follow. By the way there is no where fill water botlla. If you are a person who is familiar with the mountain you won't have problem in walking. The crater lake is beautiful and quiet which is superb. In my opinion is a much better alternative that make el Arenal
