  • Costa Rica stands out as a country without an army, and therefore very peaceful, but in the post-independence era had to fight against the so-called filibusters, which was a group of mainly American mercenaries, Cosra Rica managed with a very unprofessional army sacR to that Central America Group, one of the heroes of the epic is recognized as the soldier Juan Santamaría , a young native of Alajuela... In the Centre of the city there is the Park which made tribute to the soldier, with a statue of John with the torch that burned the Inn in Rivas, Nicaragua, important part during this war. Being rare in historical buildings cities in Costa Rica, worth walking the three hundred meters including the Juan Santamaría Park, then North following the theatre municipal, and at the same time building the Institute of Alajuela, which now houses a University Center, was founded then the central Parqie, known as handles, by its lush mango trees opposite the old building of mail, and, in the next block the Museum Juan Santamaria, with memories of the war of 1856, against the filibusters., can spend a morning or an afternoon in such city touring these sites of historical interest.
