Considered one of the world's finest snorkeling spots, Aroa Marine Reserve is a protected lagoon featuring crystal-clear water and droves of fish. This natural breeding ground provides a safe home for butterfly fish, sea bream, octopi, clams, and moray eels. Snorkeling gear and diving tours are available from the onsite resort or the dive center. Avoid stepping on coral while snorkeling, but do not worry about watching out for boats, because they are not allowed in the lagoon.   • We stayed at the Rarotongan Resort and Spa and snorkled in the reserve. The water was amazingly clear and you could see fish swimming really close to shore. It's a shame that the coral was mostly grey...  more »
  • It was incredible. I couldn’t believe how many fish there were; quantity and variety—especially when the tide was in. I did some snorkelling, but you didn’t need to. The fish were just there.  more »
