Desierto de la Tatacoa, Villavieja
(4.7/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Explore the dunes and rock formations at Desierto de la Tatacoa, a tranquil semi-arid desert away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. Named after the sound a rattlesnake makes (even though there are none in the area), the desert has a large, dry, tropical ecosystem. Roam among the tall cactus plants and spot numerous wildlife species such as scorpions, turtles, eagles, and wildcats. Favorite activities here include camping, picnicking, or just enjoying the unusual landscape. Visit the observatory to view the stars and planets through a telescope, or stargaze on your own. A visit to Desierto de la Tatacoa represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Villavieja itinerary builder to plot your vacation.

  • We visited with my girlfriend the tatacoa desert the first weekend of the month of December, I thought it was a great site, there are several things to do, I advise that they better decide to stay in the desert there are several hostels for different prices, the passage from neiva to desert terminal costs 15.000 COP, lodging in the desert is easy to buy it there are several places prices ranging from 25,000 POPS up to 400,000 POPS per night. I advise to carry sufficient water, good shoes that walk enough, guard, repellent. Hostels offer food and it is not very expensive, guide you don't need to visit the places, you can easily access the motorcycle taxis, they rent bikes and there is the option of the horses, I recommend much visit the Observatory and go talk, they teach you many things, we did not have the opportunity to see the stars since it was cloudy, but despite that the talk was very educational , if going to the town of villavieja recommend Professor marcos restaurant is a very kind person and the restaurant food is very good, super recommended the place to go for a walk knowing and passion by the big way which is the site.
