Desierto de la Tatacoa, Villavieja

Explore the dunes and rock formations at Desierto de la Tatacoa, a tranquil semi-arid desert away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. Named after the sound a rattlesnake makes (even though there are none in the area), the desert has a large, dry, tropical ecosystem. Roam among the tall cactus plants and spot numerous wildlife species such as scorpions, turtles, eagles, and wildcats. Favorite activities here include camping, picnicking, or just enjoying the unusual landscape. Visit the observatory to view the stars and planets through a telescope, or stargaze on your own. A visit to Desierto de la Tatacoa represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Villavieja itinerary builder to plot your vacation.

It was really the goal main desert trip was to go to the observatorio astronomico de Tatacoa, my daughter it hailed as one of their birthday wishes and we have dishonest managers. We came late to the function of the 7, and one of the organizers "which received money" told us that it was the only opportunity to enter but that had already started, but that was an hour and a half more... And ask again if not started again but later it was radical in its response "this is not the only" entered did not ballot told us sit here but at that time the astronomer appreciated the attention by the talk and is farewell then made us go through a couple of seconds to observe a few unfinishedmasterpiece to Saturn and Jupiter. People started out... my nephew wanted to question some aspects of the sky the astronomer when we approached other organizers saying that we had to leave because it began the following function explain you that not us had said given other information that was the only opportunity to be there, started to raise the voice and to tell us that already had regarded by one hour at the sky with a telescope that is all... explain you we expected to hear the conversation that We lost and that if we could be to not go back to look through the telescope to the charge of receiving money told us that they had an hour more explanations astronomical something that it was false as was univa function we said of the place without any courtesy. Really that dull experience with the place, besides the explanations received were superficial only money that can get you interested... I was informed that later there is another Observatory later if you can find it not is where is located but told me that it is much better in terms of attention and the administrative management of the place.

It is a unique place, the landscape is beautiful but when in reality is not a desert as such (should be sand). You are asked that people not climb to the structures that have been formed because they are precisely ground that they would not resist the weight of so many people. There are several basic restaurants across the road (covers several kilometers desert) and the typical kid you can eat. Be at night for stargazing is simply not to be missed since you can see shooting stars and as another Galaxy do not know; but when we were on the sides of the Astronomical Observatory not were, toca touring part of the desert to get to see them because not from all sides you can see if the night is cloudy. Only with a professional camera can portray the stars, so that they do not lose time with your cell phone and miss the beautiful spectacle that enjoys to lie down on the ground and look to the sky

The desert is a beautiful place! Personally I think that the area with the Red sands are the most beautiful!. It is important to wear covered shoes, sunscreen, and bring good hydration. All (including water) is very expensive in the desert. In the village is posiible get motorcycle taxis that take you into the wilderness by masomenos 15,000 (a couple) and alla can walk without a guide! But you have to walk muuucho! So which is best to start early in the morning. I personally think that the guide is not necessary, but if you travel with children or simply do not like walking is better to ask the recio to several guides, here unfortunately there is an entity to monitor and to standardize the tours so ls prices vary!. First day lunch we rexomendsron a place called monterrey, us was super bad! the food was not good and my mom gave him diarrhea, but traveling a little town we stumbled upon the restaurant of the hotel oasis of the tatacoa (just one block from the main Park, out of the way to the desert). The restaurant is new! are two Venezuelan super friendly, lunch was very rich, well served, the place is clean and very nice! And the poralmuerzo price was 8000 (including soup, meat, salad, fried yuquitas and juice), definitely super recommended that restaurant!
